Tsukihi is up next! Her... "problem"... is gonna be a lot harder to.. um... "work out".
Kaiki actually brought up a lot of really interesting points though. Despite the fact that he can use supernatural beings and has a wealthy knowledge of it, he literally does not believe in their existence.
At first it seemed as if he was just a bullshitting con man the entire time
And then it seemed as if he was only pretending to not believe in the supernatural
But then he confirms that his beliefs are that these supernatural beings are the creation of our own imaginations, a force of the mind that effects everyone around them through a system of belief. Therefore, they exist, and yet they don't. If I had to compare it to something, it would be hypnotics, or a powerful suggestion.
In other words, fantasy is brought to reality through faith?

I'm not sure why, but I find 'belief' sounds better to myself than 'faith' in that last sentence.
I would say that when Kaiki uses his methods for incurring his fake supernatural, that they mirror the actual supernatural phenoma close enough at times to become partially supernatural themselves, as the requirements for said supernatural are caused by the fake existing. However, it would be limited by the fact that the fake is the initial anchor for the real to occur. So, the phenomena can then be dealt with as either a fake or real version of it.
I'd guess that Kaiki bases his fraudery on the supernatural, supposing that it's be easier to trick people with stories of pre existing supernatural. Since Kaiki doesn't believe in the supernatural, the convincing results merely assure him of the effectiveness of basing his fraudery on stories of the known supernatural, which led him to know so much about something he doesn't even believe in.

Ah, for a general background story that was never properly shown in the anime....
Kaiki went to school for supernatural studies and was Oshino's colleague. They actually know each other quite well.
Kaiki, while knowledgable of supernatural, does not believe in them. Also, each student who went to college for this area all have a field of expertise. Kaiki's specialties (self proclaimed, at least) are supernaturals that are fake. Though because of his stance, what he means by "fake" is debatable.
He knew a lot about the Fire Wreath Bee, and claimed it was fake. Oshino was actually wrong about the story behind the Bee, which would imply it was one of Kaiki's specialties.
SO CONFUSING.
Anyways, I'm assuming the third colleague (specializing in supernaturals revolving around gods and immortality) is going to show up in the next episode or so, since the character up next to be hit is the younger sister.

Thanks for the backround. I'm guessing that's from the novels then? Would I be correct in believing that reading them currently would be somewhat difficult?

Sadly no but you can find
Kizumonogatari translated

Of course they'd translate that vampire's story first...

To be honest, I had believed they would have translated Bakemonogatari first, just because the anime aired first. Lol.
