Steam can't play games

This is an archive of the mabination.com forums which were active from 2010 to 2018. And I don't mean games like Dungeon Defenders or Half-life 2.
I'm talking about really low spec games like Cave Story+ which my computer can def. handle but for some reason won't.

Anyways I want to run Jamestown but I get 3 annoying beeps while the game window is running and it exits.
For Cave Story+ it goes to a black screen and then exits out.

I don't understand since this really old computer can handle 3D games.

I verified the game cache even reformatted the hard drive with windows XP SP3.

What files are needed to run these games?
I already got DirectX 9c.

Say, can you play the original cave story? Try that and see if the computer would run it.

Try installing OpenAL it might help with the crashing.
Also, try forcing the games to run in 800x600 resolution, to change the resoultion, you go to the game's properties on steam and set launch options, there should be a box, you will enter "-height 600 -width 800"
And if that doesn't work you should go in the steam users forum and post on the thread for bugs in the Jamestown section.

It runs it just fine, this laptop can play NSFS Underground and somethingbasketball 2K5 in 3D, but I noticed something being installed by steam when I was about to play jamestown but didn't get the name of it.
