So I'm about to buy a white dye from someone. We meet in Dunbarton bank, and I pay in gold bags. Then the person walks back out the bank with my bags! Turns out the person sold most of my bags because there were too many (9...).
:T_T:
The person bought me new ones. The new ones are black. But yeah. Just thought I'd share that random encounter that has never happened to me before!!

If they bought them again to give to you, everything seems fine, your lucky you traded with someone who was nice enough to buy them back!

This is why i always use checks. Ive lost what must be thousands of gold bags on people just walking out of the bank with them never to be seen again.

Yeah, I was glad the person was kind enough to do that. :)

This was honestly the first problem I've ever had when using gold.

That's exactly why I don't use them. :/

Check fee = 10% (less on Wednesday)
Gold bag cost = 20% (0% if bags returned)
If half or more of the people walk away with your gold bags, then checks are cheaper.
Checks are more convenient though...

Most people return the gold bags, especially when they only resell for a tiny bit and they take up a lot of space.
If the amount is like 150k I usually use gold bags (I keep 8 gold bags in a pet) but if it's over that I usually make a check only to save space.

lol I used to have a bunch of colorful ones though. Oh well. They always just stay in my mimic, so I guess it doesn't really matter.

The one time I did Gold Pouch trades was with some guy who had his account hacked and bank locked, therefore he wanted to keep the bags.
All I can say is, after doing a 2mil transaction with bags, I only use checks now.

Wow, that sucks for the guy.
I never use bags, only for small transactions. Cheques make everything a whole lot easier @_@

LOL, that guy wasted so much money.
Hope the npc gold was worth it.

Even if we assume that gold bags will be returned, it's actually something like this:
Checks: 5k/50k check
Bags: 10k initial payment + 4 inv slots/50k bag
Even if we assume you make a gazillion transactions, so that the 10k initial payment gradually becomes insignificant, you're still giving up 4 inv slots to save 5k.
Worst trade ever.
Now throw in the fact that the other person pays the deposit fee of 5k/50k bag. If someone trades me in gold bags I tell him to kick the price up 10%. When I ask for 1mil I want my bank account to go up 1mil, I don't care what the other person ends up paying.
Now throw in the 10k initial payment and possibility of getting bag scammed. Checks are really the only way to go.

I've never had anybody pay me in gold bags over 150k. The best way to trade, IMO, it through mailing.
Making checks = 10% Fee to deposit gold into bank, 10% fee to withdraw a check. Total fee is roughly 23%. (Flat 10% fee if all your bank money is received through mail/checks from other people).
Paying through mail = 5% Fee (10% Fee if direct deposit, 23% if direct + including deposit to bank, but again 10% if direct + you bank money through checks/mail) In all cases, its equal or cheaper than making a check.. unless the item has a huge mailing fee that they want you to pay.
Personally I carry 6 gold bags on a pet to dump the gold I pick up while I do my daily routine. I never deposit into the bank unless I really have nothing to spend it on (and usually I'll spend money just so that I don't have to go to the bank).
Of course, this only works on items under 500k, but still you can only fit about 500k in a trade window anyways. Being so frugal to avoid checks and inconveniencing the seller is pretty stupid if you ask me. I wouldn't accept gold bags for a transaction if I didn't have the space to carry it around, since it'd be tossing the tax to me like Syrphid said.
