No beeps, no display on work computer.

Ok, basically my dad has a PC that is for running one of our machines, however, it started having some issues, and now its not working at all. I'm going to post my notes about what I did, and what happened.

"Computer stopped booting with a "CPU Has been changed" error.
Changed CMOS Battery on Mobo with a brand new one.
Started to boot normally. Had a message that it had loaded the default CMOS settings. Went into BIOS, selected the CMOS Performance option, hit "y" and computer immediately rebooted. Went into the BIOS again and successfully changed the default settings to the Performance Option. System seemed to boot into Windows normally, loaded slowly, until it completely froze.

Rebooted and had the first error again. Froze in the error menu. Rebooted, hit F1 to boot normally. Continued loading normally until it froze.

After that after hitting the power button the fans start up, but there are no beeps of any kind, nor is there any video. The monitor stays asleep (which the one I'm testing with stays on if there is video going to it.)

Did some Googleing and found that it might be the PSU. Changed the PSU to find that the new one is probably faulty. It only made the CPU fan turn slightly on the first time the power button is pressed. Going to make a return/exchange.

Tried removing one of the RAM sticks, and powering with the old PSU. Same result of no beeps or display. I received the same results with the second RAM."

Yeah, I'm thinking its either the PSU, or the Mobo/CPU. Anyone got any ideas?

Im leaning more towards the Motherboard on this one. Would you mind telling me your pc specs?

Probably the board or a short somewhere. Make sure there's no metal of any kind touching the board with the exception of the brass motherboard standoffs where you screw it into the case.

I would also bet on the motherboard. CPUs have a much, much lower failure rate.. so it would be unlikely that it fried itself or something.

I don't know. I couldn't access the computer by the time I actually needed to look at it. :X

So I got the new new PSU now, so that won't be a problem. Just need to put it in. If it doesn't work I'll have to disassemble the PC and see whats in it.

Can a motherboard not like a power supply and not react to it?

Only if the power supply is much too low for all the stuff in the PC.
At this point I'd suggest taking the motherboard out of the case, put it on a solid, non-conductive surface, and plug in only the power cables, RAM, CPU and video card (if you don't have an on-board) and see if it boots up. If you don't have a portable "on" button to connect to the board you can use a metal object like a screw driver to power it on by touching the 2 pins connected to the front panel power switch, like this:

The new PSU is 200 Watts more powerful than the old one. A bit overkill, but it was better than buying some wierd cheapo PSU.

Also I will try that. I took everything out and its sitting in a cardboard box ATM.

Also I forgot to mention, the PC still powers on with the old PSU, but not the new one for some reason.
