On my Birthday, I have stressed and firmly decided that in order to prepare for Fallout : New Vegas (Since I go so crazy with mods, that the mods end up lagging the game so bad that I will lag for whole minutes at times and crash when there are too many enemies in FO3.) that I would definitely buy more RAM. My computer is pretty much set for most things except RAM, which is stuck at 2 Gigs.
Question is, should I settle for 4 Gigs, or 6 Gigs? I was hoping to spend around $100 for it, since I usually only ask my parents that much on my birthday being the lucky bastard I am (though if I wanted to, I can pull a spoiled brat and ask for more, but that's messed up.) and I don't think it will be easy finding actually decent sticks that total up to 6 Gigs of RAM and won't fail on me.
I'm already thinking about 6 Gigs, mainly because the more I have the better and that I can tweak the game so that I force it to use all 6 Gigs of RAM instead of 2 Gigs, but I don't know if I'm asking for too much with 6 Gigs and could be alright with 4 Gigs :/ (Or perhaps, I should even go for 8 Gigs. I don't even know how many RAM slots my computer (Alienware) has >>).

4GB MAX
If you have extra money, buy the RAM sticks with heat sinks.
They're extremely durable

Sounds good. Just googled some more background information on my computer and where to get ram cheap, and I found out I need DDR2 sticks (Also 4 available slots total since I was too lazy to open my computer again). Newegg has these for estimate $100 :
Newegg.com - CORSAIR XMS2 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X4096-6400C5
Should these be good or should I keep searching?

I thought that a 32-bit OS can only use like 2 gig RAM or something? So the question would be if you have a 32-bit or 64-bit OS.

64-Bit OS.

4GB RAM is enough for almost everything, unless you're like a hardcore multi-tasker.

What would you even do with 6 gigs anyways ._.

My computer is 32-bit and it runs on 4GB o_o
Is that a problem?

No. The maximum of ram you can have is based on your mother.
So Pikablu I suggest you find out how much your motherboard can handle.
But if it was me I'd go with 6 gigs.
I also like to upgrade my computer to the most if I can.
That way my PC wouldn't really be as outdated as it was before. O:
Also on a side note PCs are now coming in 4 gigs of ram.

6GB or 8GB IMO, it just makes you feel like you can do anything with your computer.
I personally got 6GB of RAM :D.

But why would you need 6 gigs is what I'm asking.
Even the most advanced games at the moment don't use up 6 gigs, and I highly doubt we'll see 6 gigs being a recommended requirement any time in the next 5 or so years.
If you have money to be spending around on ram, then you should buy a better graphics card or processor. Ram is fine at 4 gigs, its the other two that really matter.

I guess you don't need it.
It's just nice to have? xD.

You won't ever USE it.
Unless you want to run Crysis while streaming 10 videos on 4 different browsers and loading 8 different adobe softwares at once, just to show off to your friends.
