Recently, my Wooden Needle Wood Plate Cannon was rolled back while I was in Tailteann.
Fortunately, I was able to make it again within a week.
Even though most of what I am about to write are common sense, it really is helpful to be aware of it.
I. Saving the Game
Even though mabinogi basically saves the game automatically, when the server is unstable, it may not be able to do that.
The manual save button in Mabinogi is logging off.
This can be done in multiple ways:
1. Actually logging off through the mabi start menu (bottom left corner)
2. Exiting Mabinogi: alt +f4 or through the mabi start menu
3. Changing Channels
4. Using a Flier or Housing Key (same principle as changing channels)
If this is done, your items won't be rolled back until future modification to your inventory is made (more to be explained on next section)
II. Modification to your inventory (sounds fancy, but rly just moving items)
This is a term I just created. Basically, when you gain/lose an item, the server does not detect it until a save and it will be rolled back if the server crashes.
Modifications to inventory include
1. Receiving items through mail
2. Trading items through trade menu
3. Picking up an item from the floor
4. Equiping and unequiping your items (really important since people tend to miss that)
III. Cautions you could take
Even though Fergus could walk up to nexon HQ and spill coffee on mabi hosting machine, there are some defenses against crashes.
For example
1. Switch Channels as soon as you obtain/trade an expensive item.
2. Avoid dangerous channels (eg. CH1/Market Channel and HCH) *edited to include that not all servers use ch1 as market channel. thank you Saani*
2a. but this can't really be helped as those two channels are very useful
3. If you are on those dangerous channels, run around naked or in cheap clothes. Or just make sure your items are saved.
3a. This could somewhat apply to when training enchant since you could enchant alby es on your pro enchanted items like AD armor.
4. Make sure you change channel/log out frequently. Although you don't have to do it every 5 minutes, do it every 2 hours or when you come back from AFK. Plus this will reset the -dura timer.
Pro Tips
1. Once you put an item in a pet and unsummon it, the item is saved and you no longer need to worry.
2. If you notice extreme lag for random reason and your internet isn't at fault, log out immediately as the server could potentially crash.
2a. Some signs are: Pets are summoned too late (like 6 second delay), Players are randomly disappearing, You can't drop items, You can't move stuff in your inventory, and Skills don't load. However, the odds are the server will crash and it won't accept your saves.
Conclusion
As I said in the beginning, pretty much all of this guide is common sense that everyone already knows. However, by making it more aware to people, roll backs can be avoided as people don't really think about rollbacks all the time.

Make note that ch1 is not the market channel on all servers.

changing channel has the same effect as logging out.
Thats why we get log out penalty when we change channel after a battle. *but we don't get any warnings :/
and This was my first time writing a guide so if the guide is kind hard to read, please tell me to add more space or something like that

I'd suggest retitling it "A Guide to Preventing Rollback Item Loss", which is more direct and grammatically correct.
Good guide though, thank you.

The problem is, that for people who don't check forums often, they will not realize the problem until it's too late. If you already see that you can't move your items around (and you've just moved it out from your pet), you're f**ked, and logging off won't save you anymore, especially if nexon is going to do an emergency maintenance. The point of no return may start as early as the login servers go down (which won't let you relog or sometimes even cc, and may even prevent your character from loggin out).
I think people should have the right to not be worried about loosing their items all the time. The game service would be considered unplayable if people did have to worry, since you have to adjust yourself to a technical problem.
I personally lost 2 important items. When the first item loss I was like "whatever...", the second loss I got so pissed that i filed a ticket, which hasn't even been resolved in a month.

ah i didn't know where the line or no return was. Thank you for notifying me where it is.
and i agree that people have right to play a game without being paranoid of crashes.
But for most valuable items, they should be informed of how to save them.
