I just collected my transformation skill and is in love with how strong it is. I'm wondering what to invest my points in. I'm a Sword-wielding Lann by the way.
I tried finding some pointers about Transformations, but some are outdated while others are for Dark Knights :no!:
So, please share your wisdom with me!:what:

Gah, I had a decent overview written out, and then my internet crashed and failed to post it.
;-;
Oh well, even lazier overview. Only explaining what not to get, as the rest are pretty obvious in function.
Get as soon as possible
-All HP boosting skills
-All +Str/Will/Agi skills (+1 in Regen for the 2nd stage requisite)
-1 point in the projectile
-Conviction
-All SP gain boosting skills
-2nd Stage Trans
Useful, but not as important
-All Def boosting skills
-Aura
Usable
-Conviction strength
While Conviction isn't used for it's strength, you'll have nothing better to invest your last 2 levels in.
-Resistance
Better than the useless skills, but it's not too important.
Pretty useless
-All projectile skills beyond the initial point
Projectiles are pretty weak, and the one point is more for utility. You should mainly use trans on bosses, so the other skills are useless.
-HP Regen beyond one point
You already have way too much survivability in trans, you don't need this. One point is a requisite for the stat boost skill.
-Stamina Regen
It's a pretty small boost, and you should easily be able to handle your stamina if you can play without trans.

Oh okay. Those Projectiles are useless? I thought they looked useful.

Pretty low damage, you'd only really need to it add a bit of damage to your attacks. You could also use it to deal small amounts of damage while the boss is far away, but that's about it other than one point to get increase amount of monsters you hit, then finally to petrification.

I only like putting one point into the base projectile. It's a decent option for when you need to "range" a boss.
The multitarget is useless against most bosses as many of them lack minions (and default projectile already can lock onto two targets), and petrification is useless on bosses.

For Evie I would argue for getting the stamina boost skill. MA spam could use the increased stamina

It's still pretty crappy. Drinking a stamina potion or anything like that would do
way more for you. Of course, you could argue, "why not just do both?" Well, because it'd still do almost nothing and there are better things to put points into. A stamina potion alone would heal over 3 times as much stamina per second and there are other stamina related things you can use. Even the berserker enchantment passively heals more stamina. There are just better things to put points into.

The berserker enchant is like 2SP/sec, that skill is 5SP/sec
IIRC. Plus, they probably stack for 7SP/sec

The HP regen and stamina regen are pretty slow and not worth investing in.
I suggest to do all of the trees in first trans but the resistance skill. Max Aura and decide at your own leisure whether or not the missiles are worth maxing, either way do not touch the multi-target upgrades.
For second trans I recommend to max hp, sp, str/agi/wil, and get conviction. You'll have enough points left to max conviction. That's tricky though because it might break in one hit or not; I think it depends on how much defense you have which is why it always breaks in one hit for evie but idk
He's a lann so the stamina argument is moot; he should be using slashing high in trans.

If you guys didn't know, the OP is asking for his Lann.

Actually, the stamina skill is 8 stamina per 5 seconds, which is garbage. If it was 5 stamina/sec it would be a must max skill.

One more question. Thx for the help as of now btw. How is the extra defense skills receives less importance than others? Won't increasing Defense be essentially as effective as increasing HP?
-
Invertex wrote on 2012-01-30 01:34
Extra Defence only works when you get enough of it.
The 750 (?) Def is great and all, but if that 750 is moving you from 5k to 6k Def, it's not going to save you. But if it's moving you from 7k to 8k, or 8k to 9k, that can actually make a huge difference.
The theory is that Def gets a LOT more beneficial when Your Def > Monster Attack. So until then, it's a bit iffy.

I see.
Oh noo, then having 2k defense is terrible ;_;
So 5 SP per 3 seconds....
that means I get almost 2 free SP bars? for the whole trans duration. I see how useful that is XD.
I guess I see how that beats Resistance.
-
Invertex wrote on 2012-02-03 20:07
A single bar is 250 points.
Trans lasts for 120 seconds.
120/3 x 5 = 200 SP. It's only about one bar.
It's still worth it as it also gives everyone else in your party a free bar of SP.
2k Def is still very good, as you will eventually move up to that point where Def gets useful (unless you're an Evie).
Resistance is sort of iffy, but it's a decent filler skill and it's better than the alternatives. Unless something changes (or you like projectiles), just get it eventually. The lower flinch time is still VERY noticeable, but it won't be saving your life much.
