I think Zephyri's working on this, but I also want everybody else's opinions.
One of the old Guru members, Zeo, doesn't like the current theme layout of Mabination too well. It's high on contrast and hurts his eyes a bit.
He prefers themes that are more easing on the eyes, similar to Guru's theme.
I know it's being thought over and implemented, but is there a rough estimate of when it'll be implemented? And also what themes are being considered?

No estimate on it that I know of (unless Zeph is secretly making bunches of themes). The forum itself isn't 100% done there's still some features to add and all that. Once everything is stable designing a selection of themes can be next on the list.

I'd like a them that's black.
I usually stare at a computer screen for hours anyway I'd rather look at one that's dark.

I like blue themes.
I guess there should also be a darker theme layout for people who don't like bright white ones like these.

This. Or possibly a Black/Orange theme?

How flexible is the current build for custom theming? There is a relatively easy why to create themes by creating separate .css files that follow a specific theme and using either PHP or Javascript to switch to those different themes. I've got some workable code on my computer which does this sort of thing if you need it, but it has a lot of extra complicated stuff which might be well beyond the scope of what is needed to solve this particular problem. And depending on how the site is structed, you may need to make a lot of changes. Most of the sites I design and build are flexible and modularized so that changes can be made swiftly because its just more convenient that way, although you do have to put up quite a bit of extra work up front.

Making themes is very easy with vbulletin. Technically don't even need to open a CSS file.
Problem is the HTML, when adding features, for example the shop, and soon the arcade among other things, the old theme CSS won't apply to it properly depending on how the original developer made the add-on (for example, it took an hour to make the shop look half decent, even with VBs easy template system).
So it's best to wait until there's no more plans for major add-ons like the arcade to start work on more themes.

Black is bad on the eyes when its black+backlight with bright letters blaring.
Try reading a big thread at a Blizzard forum (black with bright blue letters) or lunatic red (black with bright red letters).
Or just write a bunch of white on black and try seeing it. It'll make your eyes water.
Steam has a good set up of gray. So does deviantart.

Oh I see. I'm just use to hand coding everything myself so I can spew out code really quickly. I forget that most people tend to use tools, not that it's a bad thing or anything, but I hate how limited some third party solutions can be. But that's just me stating my own opinion. If you guys need an extra hand, I wouldn't mind spending some time helping you guys on the weekends since I generally have a lot of free time then.

I agree with Osa that we should consider these things after other features are implemented (and that being said I will speak with staff in private on getting more of those moving - I smell our first contest brewing!) However if it is super urgent for the comfort of a member, if Osa doesn't mind, we can throw together something basic for him. I don't want someone to be driven away because something hurts his eyes :(

Zephy zephy, I'd be happy designing a grey theme!
Blargh, I meant grey in the first place. D:
But I can't code.

I usually despise green, but i think the theme chosen blends well together and I actually quite like it.
Black is a no-no on forums, as kitaek said, check wow's forums, terrible idea no matter what other colours you try to blend in.
Back in 2006 i knew a forum with a pink/white/silver theme, it looked very nice. Take this one as some sort of suggestion =)
