I've been helping a lot of new players get used to Mabi.
What I don't know is how to get them used to the combat system. It took me a while to figure that out ^^"
What I do is, I take them to wolves right after getting all their basic combat skills, such as Windmill, Smash, Defense, and Counter. I give them a round kite shield so they won't die when they fail, and I have them fight wolves.
But they usually fail or can't get used to activating the skills fast enough.
So, what do you guys do when playing mentor? xD

Wolves are the best way to train newer players and get them used to Smash, Counterattack, and Defense. I usually tell them to go naked and without a weapon, and kill 10 Gray Wolves without taking more than 1 damage (in Defense) while using skills the right way. If they can do that, I say they've mastered the basic combat system and oversee how they do in dungeons like Ciar Normal and Ciar Basic. Too many times do new players try to tank or use brute force to win, only to get pummeled hopelessly by stronger monsters.

The best way is to watch someone playing in person.
Barring that, a voice call is also effective:
"After I hit a n+1, I load defense and back off. Now watch me do it and I'll tell you as I load skills."

I brought my little sister to bears when i was teacher her how to fight ingame. Im cruel and mean, but it was effective and got her the bear slayer with bare hands title.

Wouldn't dueling be the easiest way?
Start out being dumb like a Goblin, then work your way up to faster things like Bears, and eventually to half-hearted human play.
All the while explaining things they should look out for, pointing out what works when, and explaining their mistakes.

Dueling is a pretty good method, though they wouldn't get the benefit of sharp mind.

So if they can how to fight from duels, then when they get Sharp Mind they'll be pro!

0% duels are the best.
As for mobs, I like to go from spiders right to black dire wolves... so they don't get in the habit of thinking everything dies to a normal combo, or that defense can handle everything.
Then it's onto Ice counter with Kobolds =P

I find that teaching in a 0% duel works better. The mentor can just act out the typical monster AI, goblins, spiders, wolf etc. Its much safer, and much easier to correct mistakes and explain the techniques that way.
Its also easier to explain chaining skills, smashmill, wm+def, that way.

this is what i did. told them to watch me use def and other skill loads at white dire wolves while helping them with that quest. i had to use bare hands. of course this was a while back lol. watching helps them to get a feel for the immediacy of loading skills.

Go inside Alby Advance and tell them to get the treasure, while you stay away from the room.

Start off with explaining all the skills through duels, then move onto practical explanitation. Include situational fightning styles using mage hybrid combat range builds. Make sure to have a demo. It's most affective if you have them see what it is they need to do, or demonstrate, then hear about it, which is to tell them applications of it and what it physically is; lastly is for them to simply do it. Learning is a process with many steps and checkpoints, make sure to keep intrest and make the flow of information flow fluidly. Hope my random assortment of sentances helped, x-x tired.
