This is an archive of the mabination.com forums which were active from 2010 to 2018. You can not register, post or otherwise interact with the site other than browsing the content for historical purposes. The content is provided as-is, from the moment of the last backup taken of the database in 2019. We don't want the site to turn into a portal for sell outs and cash cow milking.

but we have ads :what:
and like we don't have to have threads or anything about it, it could be limited to signatures and stuff
for example:

It gets really annoying.
And then starts all the false links and tiny urls and oh god.
The ads are for keeping the site itself up.

Why not have approved sites, then?
"annoying" isn't a good excuse either, someone could find

annoying. (I don't, but I'm trying to make a point)

Quote from somewhere in the rules:
They are not only disagreed upon by the community, but also potentially harmful.
While I agree that the ones you mentioned are pretty safe, there are some that aren't. And I don't know if they really are largely disagreed upon, but I'm sure someone'd be all poopoo-ing people with the links.
I honestly have never understood why referral links aren't allowed, and not just here. I mean, you just use your own discretion, y'know? If you wanna click someone's link, you can. If you don't want to, then don't.

No I mean theres going to be things like

As their entire sig, and its a tiny url, and turns out its a prizerebel link, and everyone is pissed.

Then you report it and we just edit the signature into something less stupid.
Or just ban them. That's fun too.

Emily beat me to it.
I didn't plan on using anything but what I used above
my suggestions are
-Having approved sites
-Having it limited to signature only
-Having it follow the same signature rules along with it not being a huge ad in your face like Kitae posted
-Cannot post misleading information
-

I still don't like it. It's an ad. Some of us use ad blockers for a reason.

Another thing is you can just make sure you spoiler it.

the cat never really liked having referral links on forums
It's an ad by the users' benefit, not the website's

Click below to earn $15 an hour

[Image: http://www.prizerebel.com/banners/f8ec9ac1a0b78af6535796f2a1270af62249506.png]
and before you guys get all hissy with it
there's no link behind it
make it where you cannot enlarge text with the ads and they have to be spoiler'd if it's a banner
problem solved
oh and I won't squeal but there's someone who's had a referral link in there sig for a very long time, and nothing's been done about that.
^the reason I put this is because I've seen no trouble that arose from this
