Alright so im trying Vindictus, for lack of anything else, and im wondering if theres any advice in what i should play as a first character? Other helpful tips and advice would help.
Im thinking about Fiona, and i've read the guides a fair bit, and i dont make much sense of them :hot:
I don't think there's any "advice" for a first character. Just choose whatever character fits your playstyle the best.
Lann plays like a rogue class. He's the hardest class to play, because his "dodge" skill for Swords is called Slip Dash. At the max rank, which is r6, it lasts for .30 seconds. He can slip dash twice, with the second being called Nimble Dash. Now, this seems extremely tiny right? It is. . .and it's also why he's the most susceptible to lag. The tiniest lag spike/rubber band can cause you to get hit. Now, his other weapon Spears doesn't have an "actual dodge". None of their dodge skills gives invincibility. He has to learn the hitboxes of the bosses, and attempt to go around them or under them with his dodges. However, in spite of all this, Spear Lann has the highest DPS in the game, provided he's able to constantly attack a boss that is. . .
Fiona uses a longsword and a shield, or a hammer with a shield. The longsword offers faster attacks, and enables you to get into Heavy Stander faster, but the Hammer has much more powerful attacks. This is the way it used to be. . .due to the hammer revamp that took place last year, the hammer seems to almost completely outclass the sword. The speed of the hammer was increased, you can cancel some attacks with heavy stander, and the smashes had their damage increased. Fiona relies on her shield a lot, so if it ever breaks in a battle, you better find some way to repair it. The campfire skill that you'll learn early on is the best for her: It gives some attack power, while also giving armor regeneration which applies to the shield.
Evie is the mage of Vindictus. She uses either a Scythe or a Staff. Staff evie is recently considered overpowered, because she can do practically everything: She has summons that can distract the boss, she can revive people herself, she can heal, she can disable the boss for a short period of time, and she has a supposedly "OP" dodge. Mana Amber, which I refer to as Egg Form, puts her in a crystal form that blocks attacks. The problem is it takes a lot of stamina to use and you're at the mercy of the Vindictus physics engine. So, if you get hit with it, expect to be sent flying. In terms of damage, she's high up there, tied with or slightly worse than Hammer Fiona, who is second to Lann. Scythe on the other hand has to rely on her 4 hit combo, to mark the enemy and then activate her "snap" skill. She was pretty good in the beginning, but because her skills are capped at rA, her damage suffers a lot. Her dodge is called Blink, which enables her to go through the boss. However, it costs a LOT of stamina. One more thing, Evie survives better than most classes because of her mana shield. It's a passive extra life bar in a way. When she first gets hit, she'll lose some shields depending on how hard the impact was. She'll regenerate them overtime, but an Evie without mana shield is the most fragile class in the game.
Finally, Karok can be labeled as the Berserker. He uses either a Pillar or the new Cestus item. The pillar enables him to do slow, but powerful attacks. His unique abilities include catching a bosses smash attack and holding them in place, where he'll face off with them in a test of strength. This is called Clash, and it's very enjoyable to use, albeit it takes some timing to know when to grab the bosses attack. For the weaker bosses, if Karok knocks them down, he can use Boss bash, where he grabs them and quite frankly,
beats the crap out of them. His dodge is called Shock Absorb, which allows to him to absorb the impact of the attack. He'll still take the damage, but he'll heal it right back up in a few seconds. All of his attacks have frames for Shock Absorb, so you'll have to practice to get down what attacks to actually use. Cestus on the other hand, is a gauntlet that he wears. Although it has much higher attack power than the Pillar, its smashes have low multipliers and thus nerfs its overall damage capabilities. However, it is
much faster than the pillar and has a different dodge, called Weaving (Bob and Weave :P). When he gets hit during weaving, he takes no damage and his cestus will gain a burst gauge level. These burst gauges can be used to either increase attack speed, increase attack power or to give a guaranteed crit chance with the next subsequent smash attacks.
Sorry for the long read, but that's pretty much the main points of the classes. Also, what server would you start on? Nation is primarily on East unfortunately, but there are a few people here on West (Namely me I guess D:. . .).
