So, this guy I met online makes wands out of real wood. Like, props for Harry Potter fans. He has a website online which he sells them on. I have known him for well over a year now, and he is a super nice guy. But recently, he told me that he has been mocked for years because of his hobby, and recently his children have been teased as well. He said he is depressed and thinking about taking down the site to stop his children from being teased.
What should I tell him?

Tell him to teach his kids kung fu
Shouldn't be much of a problem unless his income is dependent on selling those wands; he should try to re-open an anonymous site or something.

Tell him it's just a hobby and it's nobodies business to mock what he does. Some people bake, others play video games, and some make wands. Just because some people view it a certain way doesn't mean that's a fact.
If they continue to mock him, tell him to say "Well, at-least I'm doing something I enjoy and that I have a talent for." and leave it at that. Chances are they're either jealous and/or doing it because it makes them feel good because they themselves are worthless.

Kung fu would take a while , you can learn good old american boxing in minutes and drop kids. But to the topic as long he was fans and customers i dont think it should matter he should take proud of what he does even its not the "band wagon".

You're right, but I think he is more concerned for his children than himself.

They should learn to tell people that their dad makes money doing something he loves. How many other kids can claim that their parents are doing the same?

well maybe kids are dumb :I
Seriously, if the kids are being made fun of for something their dad is doing, then either defending it or attacking the other kids' parents (preferably the former ^^; ) is the way to go.

Hey, harry potter is the chiz, and they should be more than happy to have a dad that makes awesome wands. If they can't appreciate that then they should be bullied :U
No, I kid.
This would be a good lesson for them to understand that not everyone is going to accept what others like. Since the site is an extra source of income then I say leave the site up.

His kids won't stop getting teased if he takes the site down. He'll lose his hobby, income, and self-worth--while gaining nothing by doing so.
If the bullies are from school, then he needs to call the school to get things looked at.

Teasing is different from bullying, though I'm sure we're not in any position to know exactly what's happening. If there is bullying going on, he should tell their parents to discipline their children, and if that fails, get those kids sent to juvenile detention facilities by catching them in the act. Schools tend to be useless, especially if stuff doesn't happen during school or on school grounds, which is within their jurisdiction; also, their punishments tend to be worthless.

Yeah, it's really not going to stop them from being teased. He should be proud of the work he does, really. Not everybody is going to like the same interests or hobbies that he does. It must really feel bad as a parent for that to happen, and to want to blame yourself for the thing, when it's not really your fault.
His kids should really tell someone at school to deal with their behaviour. It's not a good reason to mock someone else whether directly or indirectly for what they love to do, making them blame themselves...I really hope his kids love him a lot though. It would be really sweet if they could stand up for him, though.
