Just a little post I've read a while ago, and I thought I'd repost!

The United States is now moving into the time of year when colleges begin sending out their admissions offers. So what subject should you major in?
(Or in the case of most people reading this post, what should you have majored in?)
No great surprises here. Engineering majors get paid the best coming out of college, and they can expect to earn the highest median mid-career salaries. (Of course, being an engineer requires taking engineering courses. Three cheers for differential equations, anyone?)
Conversely, elementary school teachers can expect to be at the bottom of the salary list in both the near term and the long term.
lol @ comparing engineering and elementary education. But I guess you get what you pay for, effort-wise.
So now I'm curious: What does everyone here plan to major in?
For those already in college or university, what do you major in?
For the others, what did you major in? :P
Why did you choose the field you have? Do you like it?
I went into IT myself, and I think I made a good choice. There's a lot of job openings in this field, it's fairly resistant to outsourcing and the work is interesting. You can specialize in many areas, too (I'm into network architecture and security).

Right now I'm majoring in elementary education. I thought I really wanted to do it, but about halfway through first semester I was like "lol What the **** am I doing?"
I don't have any idea what to switch my major to either. The school I'm attending doesn't have any other interesting choices, but this other school near where I live does, so I've been thinking about transferring over there.

Finally decided that I want to be a Nursing major!
I also thought it was weird for them to compare elementary school teachers and nurses to marketing people and accountants, but oh well.
/hugs Skye
All of the people i've talked to about college except my mom switched majors, some of them more than once. Hopefully you'll find something you enjoy!

I'm a Nursing major, but I don't enjoy it at all. I'm thinking of changing my major to a career in the computer industry.

I'm going to be majoring in biology, but I don't need a major. I just need to meet the requirements for pharmacy school.

A wild Nursing major appears!
This is exciting, even though you don't like it. ;o

I'm in English Education and I enjoy it very much so far. I've always had the option of being a teacher in the back of my mind, but for some reason, I didn't think I'd like it until now.

IT/Computer Programming. What does IT even stand for anyway?
Pretty much wanted to be one since middle school, even if it started off as wanting to make vidya games. While I do want to make one at some point in my life time, I definitely won't want to make it my career. I have quite a bit of fun just making simple programs anyway. Feels really satisfying when I figure out an issue I had and fix it.
Hopefully I won't turn out to be like the some of you and end up disliking it. I won't even have a clue what to do if that happens.
Money wise, it's obviously good. I'm going to a technical school of sorts as part of a program my high school has. Past graduates from the class I'm in is making about 25-30k a year right out of high school, and I'm pretty sure that's damn good for someone going to college at the same time.

Digital Media-Concept Art.
I thought about Communication Arts-Graphic design but I love drawing characters more. It saved me some drama later on, too, so I'm glad I ended up picking what I did.
