Dr. Texturehate or: How I Learned to Stop Crashing and Love the Tara

Resized all the game's textures down to 16x16.
Looks like crap, but Tara works much better now.
As an added benefit the game's less laggy now too. XD

Plenty of issues though, partially dealing from the nature of the mod itself, and how I went about it.
- Faces are messed up, eyes single colors and the head mostly translucent.
- Grass models lack their transparency.
- For some reason crows and such are surrounded by black boxes (if you move behind them you can see the crow is inside the box).
- Textures/effects that use multiple slots from a single file (such as icebolt and such) are pretty messed up.
- Likely much more, haven't done much yet.

I always see those crows in black boxes when I first enter Tara the first couple seconds.

1 isn't a power of 2 unless the exponent is 0, even then many things expect the textures to be divisible by 2 to an integer so even though 2^0 = 1, 2 is the lowest you can expect things that use hardware-format-stored textures to do (minecraft is an outlier from this statement as it uses .png textures that it reads on the fly)... but even then many things expect textures to be divisible by 16 (and the lowest I saw in the package was 16x16), which is why I didn't try going lower.

Didn't want to go through the effort of converting over 5,000 textures just to have the game crash and me have to do it over again, 'ya know?

Wouldn't 1x1 just be a square toned to the color of your character, like minimize nearby characters, except it's a box?

Texture-wise it'd be a mod, I didn't modify the models, so yeah everything would be one solid color if that was done (though whether it's the right color or not would vary, most often it'd be correct but in some cases it'd be off).

Also, you could've avoided the character issue by using the mod that was already made.

Wasn't aware a texture resolution reduction mod existed. I'm aware of texture replacement or removal mods, but those won't do the same thing.

My concern is that when the engine finds an invalid or missing file it may do extra steps that it wouldn't otherwise (shown multiple times with people trying to fix elf lag stuff), so in theory loading a much smaller yet valid file will actually be faster than giving it no files and letting it do the extra checking steps it would do.

The forum I was on when making this pointed out the same thing, but that hasn't been updated since R80 and actually deletes a lot of things (which as I pointed out above, is worse for initial load times) while leaving others untouched (whereas what I did covers everything), but it looks like people might use mine as a replacement for that one.

I do have to say it does raise framerate nicely in Tara, haven't tried an area like dun yet.
