Browser one screen, actual work on the other. I find the desktop real estate indispensable, but I guess to what degree depends on the user.
  
  My BestBuy suggestion was so that you can actually hold the mice you're considering before buying. Brick-and-mortar stores will often have mice and keyboards on display. You will still probably find better prices online though.

  Seeing as I've never used a second monitor, how does it work? How do you switch between both monitors? I really don't get that.

  Both monitors can show 2 entirely different things (like browsing a website and mabi, etc, etc. of course, both screens have the normal functionality.), if that's what you're asking, or one can mirror the other, (as a small monitor, and a projector.)
  
  Having 2 screens means your mouse can move screen to screen, usually seamlessly. You can put in the position of each monitor, and it will adjust it, and each monitor has their own separate settings for resolution, etc. They can be entirely different screens. You can have windows on one screen, or split between the two (if you so wished).

  If you've ever had to alt-tab between windows, then you'll no longer have to, not as much, anyway. At work what we do would be extremely annoying on a single screen. I have Authorware 7 on one, and Flash CS4 on the other. and even then I have to switch between browsers, pdfs, Paint.NET, at least 2 Windows Explorers showing network drives. If I could, I would dedicate 3 screens just for Flash... code, output, and swf.

  For you... some possible combinations might include:
  Guide, video/image editor
  Guide, programming environment
  Chat, game
  Guide, game
  Video player, game
  Reading material, word processor/spreadsheet
  
  it's endless, of course. The point is, you can never have too much screen real estate.

  Right now the brand I trust most for SSDs is intel. Also make sure that it is not "MLC", those wear out faster from writes than single layer. MLC durability is improving but I personally wouldn't trust them for another few years.
