The marketplace is not as heavy on botting as it is in Maplestory, I recall seeing someone else playing at a high level. He payed like 300mil to obtain one out of FIFTY quest items.
The main legitimate way for people to obtain gold, I would say, is selling dye ampoules. I know those might have technically been overpriced as well, but people actually buy those with gold.

This only works due to the fact that it's impossible to bot NX, so botters/players take the botted gold and convert it for NX based items. Cash shop items in general are the only things that are constantly profitable, and the in game "NX/Gold" rate is usually what shows how bad an economy has gotten.

Voted Lann; although I think Fiona needs the most to be amazing (BH is damn luxurious), Lann needs the most to just get by as well as the other characters do. Evie can do fine with a +6 in QLG/Temptress

I would say Lann needs the most funding to prove his usefulness. Evies and Fionas seem to need not as much funding because during all the raids I've ventured so far, Fionas and Evies like, never die.... while the guys need feathers all the time. However, Karok stands out as he can actually survive a couple of hits before actually dying. Lanns would need all the defense stacking they need I guess.

Oh right, I probably should state my views on this topic.
I haven't voted simply as I believe the amount of funding needed for every character is already extremely high. I don't really see the point in arguing this as being "viable" is so subjective.
But even just looking at pricing in general, weapons (especially +10s and double Rank 8/9 enchants) all cost around the same for a viable weapon. You're already likely around 100m for any weapon of that quality, so plus or minus 10m is fairly minor. Similarly, Evie's spellbook and Fiona's shield fall into the same category (with a Jirkal being pretty affordable). Armor, due to the recent exploit, means that staple BH/Swift, Swift/Ingkells, and Wonderland sets are all in the same price range. Force costs about as much as Sentinel, while Well-Balanced costs about as much as a Tutelary.
The only thing that becomes any different is the price of Warlord Passion versus Significant Berserker, which is about 40m less for a set of S/B. But even switching to Warlord Healthy evens out the price and gives you plenty of Def. Accessory costs themselves actually balance this out further, with the melee classes having much cheaper options for certain slots.
In the end, you're going to pay the same amount to reach the common goals in the community. It's likely going to cost you at least 200m to make any set with enough Defence and Attack to be effective, so the price gaps between the cheapest (~2m for a Dreamwalker Pillar?) and most expensive (~25m for a Black Hammer?) ends up being only about 10% of the total cost.
