It will, at random, dim and then go black. It comes back on if I let it sit a few minutes and eventually stops...but it's kind of an issue if I'm doing anything.
I'm thinking about replacing it with this one, but I know nothing about monitors. I just want a ~20inch screen with LED backlighting and 1920x1080 resolution. Oh, and it'd be nice if it didn't die on me so quick...

A CRT? Had that issue and yeah, getting a new one is better.
Newegg search.
Most you'll get for a reasonable price at that size/resolution will likely be TN instead of IPS, so other than some small functionality like additional USB ports or some speakers, it's a "check what has good reviews" deal since quality will be in the same ballpark, so personal choice (aesthetics and such) are something to consider as well, I don't think any of the ones there have any sort of major technical superiority (somebody correct me if I'm wrong).

The one I have now is an LCD, I think. It was a gift, so, I'm not sure.

I was purposely browsing far zoomed out because I'm in public and I want to keep my power level down, but then I saw this thread and due to the tiny font misread as "my mother is dying" and I was like HOLY SHIT

Haha, yeah, that would be a problem too xD
The problem seems to be getting worse so I'm gonna go ahead and order it. I need it to be here asap >_<
Annnnnd it's dead...fortunately I have a backup CRT that never gives me any trouble...

Only $120 for 21.5 inch 1080p LCD monitor? Might as well!
I'd buy a couple too if I had enough desk space. Unfortunately, I probably wouldn't be able to fit even a second monitor on here.

lolTN based panel. D: I wouldn't buy that..
Dell has affordable UltraSharp monitors that use eIPS. IIRC Newegg carried them, too.

I seriously have trouble believing that IPS is worth the price, even after all of those private messages we sent back and forth. And you know I care about these things.

If you're okay with seeing different shades of colour in different areas of the screen, depending on the angle, then IPS is not worth the price. xP
Otherwise, the slight increase in cost is worthwhile, especially if you compare the cost relative to the overall quality (even disregarding TN vs e/IPS) with the cheapest monitors in that list above.
Dell has their
UltraSharp 23" for $240, shipped. As a bonus for gaming, it has really low input lag, which is nice.

Oh, please. You make it sound like I'm looking at the rainbow at any given corner of the screen.

If by "the slight increase in cost" you mean it costs nearly twice as much.

See.

No, I made it sound like colour's shade. :| And it's actually pretty noticeable, if you test the change in shades by looking at different areas of the monitor directly. We're just used to it, so we learned to ignore it. But there are cases where it just jumps at you. But like I said, if you don't care about shade uniformity or input lag, then buy whatever's cheaper.
And just because something is nearly double the cost, it doesn't mean it's a huge increase. In this case, yes, the shitty Acer display is almost 2x cheaper, but it's, well.. shitty. >_o Of course, if it's all you can afford then that's another matter.

You could also buy a TN monitor that's twice as expensive and stuff, or you could get two monitors.
Blah, guess I'd just have to see one for myself, but I really don't think it would justify paying twice as much.
-
Yoorah wrote on 2012-02-23 05:03
My point exactly. You could pay 2x for a TN monitor easily, too.
[S]But then you get no actual benefit from that. D:[/S] Well, you get some, but not as much as you get from stepping up to a well built, eIPS display.
I just got annoyed with the top part of the screen being darker than the bottom part, due to the difference in angle. And this is on a 19".. it'll only get more annoying on a bigger size. x_x
Not to mention, those sexy UltraSharps can be rotated 90 degrees. Then you can do a really nice triple monitor setup. @_@

You can get a nice triple monitor setup with TN monitors too... at half the cost. Just put them at the right angle.
I don't really notice the color thing with
this 24 inch monitor. The only time I notice it is when I accidentally slouch way too much in my chair, then the colors can be slightly off, and that's fixed by sitting at least semi-properly again. I can lean back or forward pretty far and have it end up the same. That doesn't mean it isn't happening, just that you might have to pay all that money just to correct something that's practically unnoticeable to anyone who has it set up at the proper viewing angle.

I've never noticed any color issues, and I don't really care if it's because I'm used to them. I'm not paying twice as much to fix a problem I haven't noticed exists.
