I wish there were more details on this. Even if it was just some kid with a handgun, the teacher must have been very brave.
I would guess the gun was empty when the gunman was being chased. It would be crazy indeed to run towards someone with a loaded gun.

The most I found out about the teacher chasing the kid away is that it was a school coach or something. But yeah, pretty ballsy.
Also, dunno if I saw it in the CNN article, but it said the kid was enrolled in a school for "troubled juveniles" :l.

Well, if this gets enough publicity, that kind of thing won't be ignored in the future, for better or for worse.
Sure it will ._.

Just like every other public school shooting or other public shooting that has taken place the past 10 years has :/
Don't expect incidents like this to be miracle workers as there have been plenty before it that haven't changed anything.

there was a shooting at my highschool a few years back and the guy looked like a wiger (and he was going after just 1 person apparently, cause he didn't go all mad shooting spree on the rest of the school)
strangely, the shooting also happened in the cafeteria (I'm kinda glad I was outside at the time, now that I think of it)
my point was that it doesn't have to be some emo kid

I saw an update on my local news site while I was browsing school closings.
~
TL;DR: at this point, he's been charged as a juvenile, but the prosecutor wants to charge him as an adult. Possibility of life without parole if that's the case, but if he's charged as a juvenile he might only be in jail until he's 21. Not eligible for death penalty, which I think is too extreme anyways. What this kid needs is help with his issues, not the electric chair.
Also, here is the CNN version which is basically trying really hard to push the idea that this kid is your typical "delinquent."
And I found out what happened with the kid being chased away; it was a football coach/study hall monitor - the guy just saw a kid with a gun and chased him away. Pretty gutsy.

I talked to one of the kids that got shot on facebook. Poor fellow, Nick. He might not walk again.

Mmm, yeah...the doctors are 'cautiously optimistic', I read.
Also, on the earlier CNN story a commenter looked up one of the students via Facebook that they interviewed for the story. The girl told the news she felt bad for the kid, but on Facebook she was like "omg can't believe I fuckin' went to school with this kid wtf wtf wtf"
gg.

Hmm, a brave coach indeed.

I wanna beat the fucking crap outta that emo who did the shooting. This fucking pisses me off how these little emo kids go around and can't get their shit together so they either commit suicide or kill everyone.
not everyone can be strong as you emos and goths are diffrent. He could have fought those students for ever, but why fight when you have gun? either way the decision was made by his influence blame them too.

Reading the story again, I wonder if this emo kid just came in with a Saturday Night Special and popped off his shots at close range due to necessity. It would make sense for him to run from the gym teacher if that were true, since he would have used all of the ammo.
