Here in Canada, software, music and movies are non-refundable goods once opened. They'll only exchange if the item is found to be defective. This policy is there.. for obvious reasons. ):

I actually inadvertently ended up doing this when I returned my camera for a refund. I was pretty worried, since while the camera was defective and a refund was warranted, the store could have still charged me a restocking fee of like 15% if they felt like it, because I filled out the warranty card on the camera already. 15% from over $600 that I paid for the camera would have been annoying to waste for no reason. D: Thankfully, they decided to give me a replacement instead, which I tested and returned for a refund a few days later. But at least I didn't pull any dirty tricks--the 2nd camera was faulty, as well. :)
Nevertheless, I hope it works out for you. Research and read reviews next time, to avoid the trouble. x)
