Hello all,
I need a video editing software to help make my video look more professional in a sense for a school project. I'm looking for special effects and so on.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
I know the ones that are free and usually terrible, but I am not willing to go out and spend money on a program I'm only going to use once...

Well if you haven't ever tried the trail for Sony Vegas, that's a really good editing program. It's really expensive, but you can easily do with the trial for it. There are so many things you can do on it, you just have to experiment a quite lot with effects and different layers if you want, at the beginning.
You can also do a bit of audio edits as in changing from stereo, mono sound, if you need that at all. Easy to also shorten and lengthen any video clip of effect. C:

Sony Vegas is great and what most people use.
Me personally I use Cyberlink PowerDirector.

Sony Vegas is awesome. It's quite newb-friendly and you can always get the full version [S]for free. [/S] Just youtube it.
Check the comments to see what works, I suggest reading quite a few of them to make sure. And as a double-check keep your security running, but let it run the keygen and such.
If you need any help getting used to Sony Vegas, feel free to PM me.

Sony Vegas. But of course if you can't afford it (and want to stay legal) you could try the Open Source Lightworks. I haven't learned how to use it yet but I have it installed and sitting in my task bar to select. Looks pretty powerful, but a lot more complicated that Vegas.
