Some people disgust me

So today at work there was a mom and her 2nd grader selling Girl Scout cookies (amazing, yet so expensive), the girl's approach to selling em, which worked, was tomorrow is the last day the Girls Scouts are selling cookies. They sold 50 boxes within 30 mins. We were quit busy.

Then on my first break, I go out and am waiting in line to buy some cookies. There is a young couple in front of me being indecisive. Then an older lady walks out of the store and the lil girl asks if she would like some cookies. Not getting in her face or anything, just being cute and really polite.

This old lady, goes off on this tangent about how the Girls Scouts of America (GSA) supports the death of unborn babies, see here:

The couple in front of me are telling this girl to not listen to her, and the mom comes back with

I have NEVER heard of anyone telling a 2nd grader about killing unborn babies!

Old ladies response:

Well you have her selling the cookies. *starts walking away*

So many things I wanted to say to this lady. SO MANY. But all I said, was "Don't listen to her, shes crazy and has no idea what she is talking about". Loud enough for the lady to hear.

Seriously who the hell, says that to a lil kid. It's not only above her level of thinking, but can quite possibly scare her.

It's not the first time Girl Scouts (or even Boy Scouts) have been involved in religious crap. It's pretty sad that they're forcing such ideas on young, impressionable children in the first place. But definitely not surprising.

The political agenda of the organization isn't something that should be pushed on anyone so young, but the counterpoints shouldn't either. Girls don't join the scouts for that. Hell, that isn't even about a political agenda: Planned Parenthood provides so many beneficial services for women. It just makes sense for the Girl Scouts, as an organization, to value a relationship with them.

Also, Girl Scout Cookies are fucking good. I have 2 boxes waiting for me downstairs... :3c

It's not the fact that they do, but their support behind it is very logical. Plus their not teaching their scouts to participate in such activities anyway, or at least SHOULDN'T be. I dunno what happens beyond their closed meetings. But both my sisters were in Girl Scouts and all they ever did was have fun, and lots of it. Learned some good morals and survivability tactics.

I have a story that's actually quite similar to this.

I was a member of the Boy Scouts of America around five years ago. One of the last things that I did was support a fundraiser by collecting canned goods at the local recycling center. A friend and I approached an elderly man and asked him if he had any canned goods to donate. He promptly told us off stating "I tried to join the Boy Scouts when I was younger but they turned me away because i'm an atheist. I don't want anything to do with your Christian cult."

Yep.

I'm an atheist and my friend is actually Jewish.

Oh my, seems like that old man caught the wrong troop leader then. Though, I have to say I had bad experiences while I was in girl scouts myself, mainly having two other girl scouts intentionally drop a little larger than 2X4 metal pipe right on my head. I quit shortly after that =|
