Well I guess because it has no other use than to look pretty I don't have to give a damn when it runs out of summon time like I do with my other pets. I can just have it follow me around mindlessly until it wears out and not worry about losing my alchemy crystal stash.
That said, I'd probably only get one if it came with some other pet, like the seal. (I love to afk fish).

Only thing on right click is Cancel Summon
EDIT: HOLY CRAP. Mini Seal Gives +7 HP, MP, and Stam boost as companion bonus. Didn't see that one coming.
