I had this problem ever since I got this laptop. It's weird since I can run games like AC2 and Borderlands, but I can't run games like Terraria, Tribes Ascend and Dungeon Defenders. Any idea what could have caused this and how can I fix it?

My guess would be that maybe your graphics card doesn't support direct x9. What GPU do you have?

Intel HD 3000

It has to be something else then, as Intel HD 3000 supports Direct x10.1. Yoorah/Cat, help D:

From what I read online, it's possibly because I have Dx11 and some games can't run Dx11. Problem is that I can't downgrade it. I downloaded a redist file, but I don't know what to do with it. I'm guessing extract it and use some kind of exe file, I'll see if it works once I'm done downloading.
EDIT: Nope, didn't do anything.

DX 9 and 11 work completely separately, it's like two different pieces of software. So there's really no such thing as downgrading from 11 to 9 (unless you count downgrading your GPU or OS).
So yes, try updating DX9, the following link should update it fully

It says I have the newer or equivalent version of DirectX already.

That's weird. O.o What kind of error do you get?
While it's probably not the cause of this error, you should make sure your graphics driver is up to date anyway.

Everything should be updated and with steam, the game looks like it launches, but nothing happens.
