An atheist activist who dropped threats to protest an Athens, Texas, nativity scene after his health declined is now receiving aid from fellow atheists and the very group of Christians he opposed, according to reports on the Friendly Atheist blog.
San Antonio atheist Patrick Greene spoke against the controversial Christian scene set up in front of the Henderson County courthouse last Christmas.
He had threatened to file a lawsuit, believing the display to be state endorsement of Christianity, the blog said, but backed off once he discovered in February that an eye condition could soon leave him blind.
Sand Springs Baptist Church, in Henderson County, saw Greene’s need and donated $400 to help him pay for treatment.
“Why not turn this into something else? This is a great opportunity to turn the other cheek and show God’s love,†said Jessica Crye, the Christian who organized the collection.
Greene accepted the help of what he called “real Christians†willing to love and help others.
Another $500-plus has been raised by atheists on the site gofundme.com.

That's honestly very surprising, in Texas of all places. Maybe they aren't as religious nuts as I thought.

Oh my. This part was really had an impact for me.
I'm glad to see that they were able to do such a thing. I'm sure it must have been a surprise for both "sides", that this even occurred. But alas, it shouldn't be.
I hope his eye condition improves or is treated.

I wonder how many more of these stories remain buried while the the media pulls much less flattering stories up to the surface.

I'm not too sure why Atheists = enemy of Christians? Different beliefs don't automatically make two people enemies.
Unless you're the type who thinks all Atheists are typical assholes (to which I remind you some Christians can be the same way). But I hope not.

well.... I didn't mean that atheists = enemies. When I meant enemies, I guess I meant people who do bad things to the other (In this situation, it was the... ordeal beforehand). As that one Christian said "Why not turn this into something else? This is a great opportunity to turn the other cheek and show God’s love" In regards to that, I guess the word enemy was a bit too forceful. However I totally do not think that Atheists and Christians are enemies. Just.. in this case, it was when one party did harm to the other o3o

The fact that this is from a blog, and not a media outlet, only goes to show that further.
There is always the desire to look on the bad side of others, if it's not you.
