Ok so about two months ago my paranoid mom was going to go to a tutoring center to hire a college (basically pay to confirm good college status) for $25,500. The due date for registration was the next day so my mom did not want to miss out and payed without even seriously discussing with me, my dad, or sister. I had already said i didn't need it because my sister didn't need it. So, why should I? My dad said no to it also so now it is just about getting the money back. My mom has requested they return the money back for 2 months now. And each time they extend the return date 1-2 weeks. I myself am concerned for this money (Although I'm only 14 :p) so I want to get it back more than anything. A family friend of ours had the same problem and got the money back immediately after calling local officials or police or something. My mom seems like she wants the money back badly, but shes not doing anything! She yelled at the for 2 hours this morning and they said the money will be back 4/1.
We aren't business people, so how should we approach this?
Call Police?
Call head of the business (The coordinator openly DENIED the phone number to us... I guess maybe in fear of getting fired...)
What do we do if they openly say "WE WILL NOT GIVE IT BACK!"
Ugh I hate this godamned greedy fucking world...
P.S. If your parents are planning to send you to IVY max for tutoring, openly deny it. It's the nastiest, and most useless shit-hole tutoring center in NorCal, and it's a disgrace to us asians...

Why would she spend that much money so quickly without consulting anyone?

Um, no offense, but who the fuck would spend that kind of money on something so stupid? Wish I had that kind of money to throw around.
I don't have any advice for you, but while I hope you get the money back, if you guys don't that's kind of your own faults.
I dunno. To waste money like that is pretty crazy to me. It's kinda disgusting.

Best of luck, but if you don't get it back, you guys did bring it on yourselves.

Man, if I had that kind of money...
I guess the only thing I can say is keep pestering them and try to get some sort of authority to help. Was there any sort of paperwork involved that she got to keep or anything?

No paperwork we could keep, but the coordinator said the money could be returned if we didn't sign the confirmation form yet, WHICH WE DIDN'T.

That seems kind of fishy. You'd think a transaction that huge would come with some sort of receipt. Keep pushing and hope for the best, I guess. Well, her bank would have access to that sort of information, if it came from any sort of bank account. At least she could prove that money was spent and where.

Thank you Elena. Our family friends said they solved this problem with a Lawyer... Would a lawyer help?
I don't know much, but i know all businesses have an x-day return policy, and I feel like they are just stalling.

A lawyer could help, but they charge, too.

BBB, and you could call and get legal counsel.. some give a free advice over the phone, or a free first meeting or whatever.
You could also call the Police, but DO NOT call 911. 911 is an emergency only line. This is not an emergency. You'll need to look up the Police Department's phone number in the phone book, and call there.
