  I'm gonna have to disagree with that. When it comes to laws, it would be better if we tried to fix problems by helping people out instead of doing the same things to them and hoping they understand. Some of the people who commit especially bad crimes view things much differently than others would and won't understand if we don't try to help them out. That is to say that nothing will be accomplished.
  
  Having the best law system that creates the best society means that, imo, we have to stop our emotions from making decisions. People can still hate each other and want each other to die, but it shouldn't be the law. Something that is unconditional, binding, and the government must do to you. I'm not saying it would be okay for the people to physically harm others as punishment, just that the government shouldn't be killing people like that.
  
  Eventually we're going to have to drop the idea that some people legally deserve it. Because regardless of whether or not they "deserve it", it isn't actually gonna fix the problem, but instead just make everyone else feel like they've done something good when they haven't.
  
  I have really weird views on jail that I've been holding in for a while. I can say right now that they won't be popular ones, lol. However, I think in the future, when we look back and see how we solved problems in 2012 with government-issued violence and locking people in cages to "fix" them, we'll have to wonder why we were being so silly.

  There will never be punishment "rightfully received". People's opinions of severity will always vary, and so there is no way to make every party happy. Saying an eye for an eye would work if people just "accepted" the punishment is pretty naive.

  Brass knuckles and even a chair, dear god, it's horrifying. She really should have gotten help when this started escalating. Must have also been hard to report a family member too, if she liked her sister at all.
  Being physically abused and ending up extremely uncomfortable of the thought that they may hurt her even more may have not made her want to get help for herself, though.
  
  She was basically helping them, and yet they made her efforts seem worthless. She didn't deserve this kind of punishment at all.

  It's not always so easy to reach out for help, especially in situations involving abuse. That's a fear that gets ingrained into you, along with the belief that no one would believe what you're saying to begin with. I know for myself, I never told my mother about my babysitter abusing me until I was a teenager and sure enough she refused to believe it at first.
