Earth Hour is a yearly event where people around the world pledge to turn off the lights for an hour. Many cities and utilities are participating, too. Cities are then compared based on the power usage declines to gauge participation.

It's a really nice time to go out, as most city lights will be turned off or dimmed, depending on where you live. It was pretty nice here. :) It was kinda sad to see that immigrant lower class neighbourhoods didn't seem to care much about it, everyone having their lights on while I passed by. :| The nicer places had much more participation.

Landmarks around the world are dimmed, which looks pretty cool, too. You can find photos all over the 'net.

It's one of those "let's show good will and then get back to routine" days. I'd rather optimise my routine, and rather have the rest do that as well. That little bit of saved power doesn't do jack, with all due respect.

Though I guess it's nice advertising?

I want to just draw at the time, but --

I used candles for lights whenever my family did this and then I have problems blowing them all out after because I fear that the fire will come off and catch something else on fire so I have to have my dad do it for me because I have fears.

Same for me. I consider it similar to changing your status on facebook with the expectation that it solves a problem... but then the next day (or in this case an hour later) everything is back to how it was.

I was at a store during earth hour and they shut down most of the lights at 8:30. However, half the employees had no idea what was going on and the lights were going off and on for a while.

I guess the Final Four was going on at that time. We were still watching the game, and no lights were turned off. I didn't even know it was Earth Hour.
