Another function of refining would be to melt down gold coins into gold ingots/plates. After all, gold coins are still gold, so it makes perfect sense.
On the flip side, gold ingots/plates/ores should have the option of fragmenting into gold coins.
DevCat should also make it so that you can use metal conversion to make mythril coins which would be worth twice as much as a gold coin thus allowing for more efficient money storage.

Efficient money storage? The money system is pretty efficient already. Gold can hold vast amounts of gold (5m per character, I believe). Gold bags can hold 50k per bag.
You can aways turn those ignots/plates/ores to gold coins. It is called npcing them.

It would be illegal to make coins.
And since when were gold coins real gold, anyways?

I would be one rich man if I could turn my gold ingots/plates to gold coins :)

More importantly, how do formors get coins? I'm pretty sure they don't have any machines to mint them owo

Reward from the Goddess for killing it?

You mean simple minded things that collect shiny things from any explorer that it happens to kill? Or dragons and other fiends that are known to be greedy and hoard gold? Beats me.
Wouldn't be a bad idea, but I would just rather have an option to take my gold and feed it directly into my Ego weapon, into what ever stat I want. Would be so much faster training the blasted thing if I can skip the middleman.

Psssh, if she had that much power, she would've freed herself in G1 right in the beginning and wouldn't need us Milletains. :o

You could farm gold ores/fragments and turn them into money!!
Also, refining would be easier and gold frags would drop.

Something about Tabhartas (G2) able to be formed and "controlled" through gold. owo

Well, not exactly counterfeiting. Modern money represents gold in each country's treasury. If someone makes a "counterfeit" bill, they claim more gold in that treasury than they truly have, i.e. stealing. Turning gold into gold would just be changing an objects shape, and making it into a workable form.

Fomors created alchemy. Far more advance than anything the Tuathas and Millitians created.

You could buy the ingots/plates/ores with gold, and pretend the gold you spent was simply melted into it... :D
But yeah, I understand what you're saying.
