So currently I have an Ice wand ego and it fails badly. I never use it because I hardly ever use Icebolt anymore. The only thing I really use my Ego for, is to talk with it under certain circumstances. (every week a couple of times)
So I have a couple of questions.
1. Should I kill my current ego and create another one?
2. And if I should kill it which should I get?
- Get a Fire wand ego? (Even tough it's probably the best wand ego it still fails badly)
- Get a Bastard sword ego? (Feeding it up now so it'll be stronger once I hybridize later on)
- Get a Dagger ego? (Just to save space, because all I currently use it for is talking with it)
I have a mage build with r1 Bolts and r1 Thunder and my only note worth Melee skills are r4 wm, r8 Smash and r2 Crit if that'll help.

If I were you, I'd keep the ice wand and buff it up. I'd say kill it and go with the Bastard Sword, but since your best skills are magic, it might not be a good idea. Ice Wand egos can be pretty good with high stats, so I think that keeping it would be your best bet.

Well.. If your Ice wand fails badly and you rarely use it, don't bother keeping it. You can just have a non-ego wand and since your mainly a mage I don't think it would be worth it getting an ego sword at this moment.

If it's up to me, I'd choose Dagger ego.
Because I don't care about using egos in combat. Just for blessings.

There are a few things to consider about ice wand egos.
First off, do you plan on using Ice Spear and Icebolt a lot? Remember, these are good skills. But if you plan to Icebolt-spam with it, it's durability will deplete quick, which is something else to consider. Wands are so easy to prof that repairing is easy, but it's still a consideration.
Sword spirit weapons are more versatile than wand spirit weapons. If you get a one-handed sword like a Gladius or Bastard Sword ego, not only can you dual wield with another sword, but you can use a shield with it, opening up the ability to use Charge, which is an excellent skill for starting combos, closing the gap between you and an archer, or simply rushing to an enemy before they get the chance to load a skill.
Just whatever you do, don't get a Claymore ego. I made that mistake when I was a new-ish an now I'm stuck with it. It's nice, but a Two-Handed Sword of the same level would be stronger. :(

The problem with an ego Ice wand is that it's only good for Icebolt spam and like you said it will deplete it's durability quickly. It's not really of any use for Ice spear, because even at Lvl 50 str it would add less than 2 damage to it. A Crown Ice wand would be allot better for Ice spear as it adds 28% more damage.
I am looking at a spirit sword because it's more versatile and I'll probably use it more as well. I haven't used my Ego Ice wand in months, the last time I had to feed it was during the Treasure chest event.

Fail, fail, fail, fail :|
Spirit wands are awful. Lightning wands kill the efficiency of lightningbolt, ice wands are outclassed by crown ice wands + iceboat spam kills the durability of your wand. Spirit fire wands chaincast firebolt is outclassed by a phoenix fire wand's speedcast fireball. All bolts are mana inefficient compared to intermediate magic.
Eventually you'll run into a mob with mana deflector. This is when you'll be glad you ego'd a Gladius/mace(elf)/2H/Dustin for the massive damage bonus. Melée damage is mostly composed of weapon damage. These weapons are ideal.
Alternatively, ego a leather long bow/wing bow/crossbow(human) to benefit from the added damage/crit chance, range and aim speed.
Stick with upgraded wands and whatever you do...don't ego a dagger :o

Ego a bastard sword or glad. Glad would probably be a better bet as most mages don't have great dex.
I agree with above, wand egos are utterly useless unless you are specifically 1 element. Upgraded is delicious in comparison.

D. None of the above, get an LLB ego if you plan to hybridize.

Thanks. I think I'll go for the Bastard sword. I have 87 Dex now and I've just gotten 100 training on Refine, but I haven't upgraded it yet. So I'll have 97 Dex. Not great, but with a little work I'll have 80% with it lol
Now theres only one remain question. Male or female sword ego? I think I remember people saying the female ego is easier to feed, but my one friend just complained about how rude she is compared to a male sword Ego.

Well, out of all egos, female sword egos have the lowest growth rate. Everything has a 1.00 multiplier except for luck, which has a 0.8 multiplier. I: Otherwise, it's just a matter of personal preference.

Based on NPC buyable ego food alone, female swords are easier to feed for STR, because sandals cost 900 gold and are always available in stores. Male swords have to resort to either 7 Signs, which are only worth 800 gold and not always available at Price, or Vest and Pants Sets, which are an even lower 700 gold.

Feed male sword ego "sickles" (600g?) for strength. Also, choose the gender that makes you happy. You will be stuck with it for a long time. I had a male ice wand ego at 26 social and 37 strength and killed it because it killed durability too fast. Although the ice spam was nice.

I killed my Ice Wand ego in favor of a 2H ego, and I have slight regrets - mainly because Blaze has turned the tables on magic by providing a fast and low-cost nuke, closing the gap on efficiency that melee once held. Chaincast Icebolt can serve well as clean up after a Blaze explosion fails to clear a group while increased weapon damage helps in Smash/Windmill/pre-Blaze N strikes.
Wands still aren't good enough to warrant making one in the first place. But they're not so bad that you should kill it without some serious thinking. Note that for a Two-Handed Sword ego, Str has to be pumped all the way to 34 before it can match the damage of a Rich Crocodile blade (36 Str to match Joust Claymore). A Bastard Sword needs 24 Str to beat a nice Broadsword, 32 to beat a War Sword.
Dagger ego is okay if you really don't count on egos. Honestly, I don't find them that great seeing as how they need so much work just to beat tradeable enchanted+upgraded weapons that don't need to eat other weapons to survive.

That's a really interesting point you make there about the Ice wand ego, Justified. I'll have to take a look at that again. I've only recently gotten Ice spear so I still have to try it out more with Blaze. I'll only make my final decision once I've looked into it more.
I would like to discus the option of going with a sword ego further tough.
I've been troubled by this all day. Would a Bastard sword ego be better than a Two-handed sword ego? I've been going over the math and it seems like the Bastard sword would do slightly more wm damage if paired with a Wolf hunter's Raven upgraded Bastard sword. But the Tho-handed sword ego would do substantially more Smash damage.
To be honest I probably just confuse myself more going over the numbers so much lol
