UN’s World Population Day 2010: Beijing Announces Measures to Stop “Unauthorized Birthsâ€

July 12, 2010
Via news outlet the Global Times, the Chinese State laments the “issue of unauthorized births†in light of the UN’s stated goal of “efficient population control.â€
The UN’s World population Day, July 11, was originally set up in 1989 by the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programma to “raise awareness of global population issues.â€
“The theme of this year’s 21st World Population Dayâ€, mentions the article, “is “Everyone Countsâ€, and the activities in China will focus on the 2010 population census and emphasize the right to life.â€
“In Chinaâ€, the article goes on to say, “the issue of unauthorized births is at the forefront of its efforts to control the growth of its population as it undermines the country’s family planning policy, or “one-child policyâ€, which was implemented in 1980.â€
“According to Chinese statistics, the national population reached 1.3 billion at the end of 2008, with 6.7 million born that year. Unauthorized births accounted for a large percentage of those births.â€
“Since the family planning policy was implemented, local governments strictly controlled the births of each family, and allowed each couple to have one child, but with a more flexible policy in China’s ethnic minority areas. However, not all couples obeyed the rules (…).â€
Besides the horrible “obeyed the rulesâ€, the bone chilling term “unauthorized births†is used several times in the article to describe families exceeding their allowance of babies they decide to put on this earth. As we know, having more than one baby provokes direct interference from the Chinese State, which can tax, fine, threaten and even terminate the new life considered by the all-powerful state to be a burden on the environment.
Unauthorized births. Besides the obvious linguistic horror of the term- the language of tyrants- it’s hard to escape the linkage to “World Population Day†instituted by the United Nations. This year’s theme? Again: “Everyone Countsâ€, if you can believe it. This is Orwellian doublespeak of the first order, meant to make you think the UN cares, but which really means: every child is one too many. The UN itself explains:
“Counting everyone is an integral part of ensuring that we take everyone into account.â€
Speaking of Orwell, another striking similarity with a 1984-type scenario is the principle of people readily spying for the state and ratting each-other out. The article mentions the existence of a “household contract responsibility systemâ€- created nationwide to make sure the population control policies would be strictly carried out. Such a slave-state is exactly what the UN envisions for their desired world government. Although the UN itself tempers the tongue when it comes to their stated goal of reducing the world’s population, the Chinese authorities know exactly what goals the UN expects them to pursue:
“It (the UN) also aims to stress the importance of efficient population control by means of collecting and analyzing the latest data so as to make an impact on decision-making and improve people’s lives.â€
The statement, written for World Population Day by the Secretary-General of the UN, goes as follows:
“On this World Population Day, I call on decision-makers everywhere to make each and every person count. Only by considering the needs of all women and men, girls and boys, can we achieve the Millennium Development Goals and advance the shared values of the United Nations.â€
These shared values were described in detail by UN’s Agenda 21:
“(…) a profound reorientation of all human society, unlike anything the world has ever experienced: a major shift in the priorities of both governments and individuals and an unprecedented redeployment of human and financial resources. This shift will demand that a concern for the environmental consequences of every human action be integrated into individual and collective decision-making at every level.â€

In my opinion, those who advocate population control ought to be the first ones to die.

Well their intentions are good..... in a way. The problem is that if people still have the same amount of babies their babies have more babies etc. the world will run out of room. If you've ever read the shadow children series you might know how this could be a bad thing (population control). what i think we should do i make a colony on mars o.o

They're not advocating it by method of genocide, but birth control. Given their situation it makes sense...but I agree that some other measure should be taken. Address the root of the problem rather than the symptoms, w/e that is.

It's a needed measure, sooner or later we'll run out of room on Earth and it won't be pretty.

It NEEDS to be done.
You're not killing people, you're preventing birth. Its different.
Overpopulation is a huge issue, especially in China. Our economy could outright die because of overpopulation. And in poorer nations the number of children per family usually reaches around 6 or more unless regulated.

Wow, ignorance.
It's like saying, its better to leave kitties and puppies dying on the streets because spaying and neutering 'is wrong'.
You try feeding 1.3 billion people.
Then try feeding 2.6 billion people next year cause you turned a blind eye.
People are starving in the US and it's got a quarter of the current population in China.

People will be starving regardless. It comes down mostly to their financial situation.
If population isn't controlled resources are gonna be extremely tight. Food, clean water, living space. Were gonna run out of food and water BEFORE we run out of room on Earth.

... I'm guessing sexual self-control is a lie to the majority of humanity.

There is also the issue of large numbers of retired seniors who can't be productive.

Either way, overpopulation in poorer countries is a big issue.
Population's shrinking in Europe and America. Canada = immigration.

Contrary to popular opinion/propaganda, overpopulation is not an imminent threat to the world. Now before you burn me at the stake as a heretic, let me make my case.
The issue of finite resources (food, water, space): Throughout history, the majority of food shortages have not been caused directly by large population. Often times it would be war, natural disasters and/or corrupt governments/elites. War and natural disasters would destroy crops and create a shortage in addition to jacking up prices of still remaining crops. Throughout my studies of world/US history, I have never seen a single instance of population being a direct cause of starvation. Even in the case of China, it was over-urbanization and the overly zealous communist government that led to massive starvation. Massive unnecessary urbanization destroyed natural resources and created a shift from eating vegetables to eating meat. A cow must be fed ten pounds of vegetables to generate one pound of beef. As you can imagine, that caused quite a dramatic decrease in available food supply. The misguided communist government, convinced that birds were a pest, ordered a massive campaign to exterminate them. Unfortunately, birds were a major predator to insects that eat crops, so food supply dropped again. In the case of India; the government withholds a large surplus of crops and refuses to feed the people with it!
To those who believe that water is going to run out, I suggest you to take a look at a diagram of the water cycle. Now I do acknowledge that there are water shortages in many areas, however, the problem does not lie in population but rather in natural disasters/abnormal weather patterns/water pollution.
Space is probably the least of these problems. Believe me when I say that there is plenty of space for everyone. Understandably, those living in big cities will be skeptical (remember the concept of "over-urbanization"?), but I happen to be living in a small town, and the mythical "lack of space" is a non-entity.
On a final note: I happen to be a second child, and as such, if my parents decided to stay in China, I would not exist right now because I would be classified as an "Unauthorized birth" so this topic is quite personal for me.

I thought this was referring to China starting to implement a form of 'genetic engineering'--disallowing the idiots and morons to reproduce and providing exemptions and benefits for the smart and clever. But I guess this works too.
I just got done reading 7 hours of literature on how imbalanced and unconstitutional the Western World is when it comes to women's "rights" [no-fault divorce laws, child alimony--ever heard of a woman paying child support? I haven't.], so I can't really bring myself to really care what China's doing when the US is destroying itself willingly.
