I found this helpful article to restore directsound for vista and higher for those with a creative soundcard. This may be of use to you (definately of use to me). I'll test whether it works when I get home tonight...

The situation is this, I get frequent sound skippings in vindictus in windows 7 which well obviously shouldn't happen when you have a sound card. So gonna see if this will fix it because my vista install has problems now -.-" and I'd rather not use vista to play it.
Edit: Just set it up. My god the difference is huge. I'm hearing sounds I've never heard before and it defaulted to 5.1 which before it never let me change to 5.1, so then I enabled CMSS 3D for virtual surround sound. It just sounds wonderful now :D
Edit2: This works but I decided to install vindictus on XP anyways rendering this unnecessary. XP already has directsound by default.
Edit3:
Made a video incorporating 1080P, CMSS 7.1 virtual surround, and directsound hardware acceleration

Doesn't seem like the quality went up much versus 720P, but that might be due to the low bitrate.
