Difference in ground looked like using actual meshes/objects rather than UV mapping and texturing, but nothing beyond that. I could be horribly wrong though. Either way, always glad to see an advance in engines and the like.

I'm not sure if it's done by actual texture files or if each "atom" has it's own color information.

I didn't get to the parts that make this seem less shady because I couldn't stand the guy's weird accent. Only watched the first 15 minutes or so.
