Preview of the game by Destructoid can be found
here.
Basically, if you already know how to play
Super Smash Bros, you'll easily be able to pick up and play this game.
Instead of a Smash Ball for Final Smashes, players build up a gauge by attacking, and the gauge can go up to 3 levels. You can knock some of the gauge points out of an opponent and steal those points.
Stages will usually be crosses between different IPs, rather than just representing one IP.
Well, at least the graphics will be based on PS3's hardware if none of the above appeal to anybody?

Will probably get just because I need a multiplayer game to play that doesn't involve FPS for my brother. Overall, I don't really care much about the cast as none of them interest me, at least the characters I've seen or heard of.

im not sure how to feel about this, i like the idea of a SSB game that doesn't involve the nintendo roster, but at the same time, this looks like a rip-off cash in just to take a bite out of nintendo's line of popular gaming franchises.
the game itself does look pretty and im curious to see the mechanics of the game. anyone else notice that "fat princess" plays a bit like peach?
might actually cave in and buy a ps3 now.

My only real complaint is that the art direction seems flawed if they need to highlight every character with an obnoxious white glow to make them stand out from the background. You could see characters just fine in Smash Brothers.
Non-game related complaint is that there are so many sony fanboys who are defending this as something that is completely different and saying its not a rip off to smash brothers in the slightest.

it obviously is though, i mean look at it. same health bar idea, same concept, they have super moves. its smash bros on the ps3. why cant fans admit that and just enjoy their fun looking rip-off?
also next i see microsoft trying to do the same thing, only it'll be a massive FPS game with master chief and Shepard and every single COD nameless soldier showing up to kill each other. it'll be called frat boys wet dream: the game"

There have been previous 4-player knockout brawlers before.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Smash Up and
Cartoon Network: Punch Time Explosion.
And yes, they all use the basics and fundamentals of Super Smash Bros. All of these titles have been compared to as clones of SSB.
Wish there was more originality like
Power Stone.

As Rin said earlier, there have been many companies who tried this with varying levels of success.
I seriously don't think Sony has what it takes to make a hit like super smash bros. since the Sony characters aren't as coherent and recognizable as the Nintendo ones. With the Nintendo ones, they all have some kind of similar art style and just this bond that really feels like they can be in a single game. With the Sony characters, they just feel very ragtag, randomly selected and just thrown in there. Nintendo characters have been built up through decades and some are really household names like Mario, Luigi, Zelda, Link, Kirby etc.

.
The aura glow around the characters signifies that your Super meter is full. It is not always present.

Anyways, the roster list of characters isn't completed but there are plenty of rumors going around already

Say....... Why hasn't ANYONE called MK/MvC/Etc. a rip off of Smash Bros, or vice versa?

Sony is like 10 years late in making this
some of those "Sony" characters are from the PS2 era

Crash bandicoot hasn't been a playstation exclusive since naughty dog stopped making it.
Maybe a Singstar character lol

same thing as solid snake barely appeared on nintendo consoles and yet appeared on ssb. I grew up playing ps1 then ps2 and now ps3, crash bandicoot was one of the 1st titles i picked and was quite disappointed after naughty dog dropped it (to pick jak&daxter series on ps2, kinda of a lose/win here though)
For me it's a classic that deserves to be on it
