Quote from msn:
NANUET, N.Y. — Suburban New York police knew there was something fishy with a suspicious suitcase, and they were right. When Rockland County bomb squad officers investigating a red suitcase found in Veterans Park in Nanuet took X-rays of the package, they saw three cylinders inside and something that looked like tools and wires. So they cleared the area and blew it up.
Clarkstown Police Sgt. Harry Baumann said it turns out the suspicious items were a can of corn and two cans of tuna. And the tools? A can-opener and some pliers. No bomb.
"More than likely, some homeless guy lost his dinner," Baumann said.

LOL what happened to "innocent until proven guilty"? If the police just followed that idea more, then they would leave people's stuff alone instead of assuming that everything is a bomb.
The discovery was both fishy and corny.

The person is innocent until proven guilty, but in the case of a bomb, they don't want to take any chances that could possibly hurt or kill other people!

In case of a bomb I think they were somewhat justified in this action.
Who knows how many people could die? If the x ray made it seem like a bomb, its best to assume it is.
If anything, when they find the proper owner they could just buy him a new set of canned food and a can opener.

Lol. Well, it's better safe than sorry, and if it looked suspicious enough then they had the right to blow it up.
I mean, it's not like they just pointed to a suitcase a random business man was holding and said, "THAT'S A BOMB."

Don't most police departments have some sort of bomb sniffing dog that could identify more accurately than an X-ray whether or not there was a bomb in the suitcase? They could have at least made 100% certain that there was indeed a bomb before blowing the thing up.
