Yeah, since my laptop has been crashing and burning, I'm going to get a gaming laptop
for Christmas. It's not like it has to play Crysis or anything too high def, but I'd like a decent graphics card on it, and also a decent screen, like about 15-17". My current budget is $1000 (I might be able to get it higher if it's a really good computer though). Any suggestions for it or any brands that are good?

That's not a gaming laptop.
First thing I seen was a Intel graphics card and I knew that was a no.

The one I suggested has more processing power due to more cores.
It also can have more video memory, not to mention it uses the chipset for one of the higher end desktop graphics cards.

Get one with a mobility radeon HD5650 or higher, or one with a Geforce GT 330m or higher. Anything lower than those and you won't be playing much of the new games.

For gaming I'd leave it to a desktop. When you start working FRAPS and Lost Planet together the laptop won't handle it unless your budget is like 1200.
If you're going to just sit around and play Mabinogi and have no intention of running large renders on multimedia you could probably even settle with a 600 dollar laptop.
I was running Mabinogi Heroes in KR with medium settings at full frame rate with a laptop I bought for 580 dollars from newegg.
But seriously, laptops are for portability, work, and minor gaming. If you plan on doing some big things, just settle for a desktop, because the specs cost half as much and gets the job done twice as well.

Desktops, huh? Well, it's just that I'm more used to laptops if anything.
I might try a desktop if they're really good though...owo

A high quality desktop costs alot of money to
build...

Only yours because you wanted overkill parts -_-
For $1000, a very powerful desktop PC can be made which will wreck any laptop under $3000
Radeon 4250 is not anywhere close to high end. (4250 isn't on the chart, but 4350 and 4200 is and 4250 should fall somewhere between those 2)

And for CPUs:

The one I suggested has more processing power due to more cores.
Nonetheless in games, any i3 will utterly wipe the floor with a low-clocked quad that is also slower clock-for-clock.
