  Not only that, only the American, British, and Russian parties. I've never seen a French or Australian campaign for example. I'd be interested to see how they'd narrate the landing at another place than Omaha Beach.
  
  Blitzkrieg and the Sudden Strike games have German campaigns though, but that's obviously quite different. In fact many strategy games have, but controlling tanks and battalions is kind of a detached experience.

  I'm more interested in the brutal, bleak stuff, Stalingrad with its horrible weather and Kesselschlacht* or Berlin with its horribly ill-equipped, ill-trained and ill-aged Volkssturm. That would be the proper stuff for a game about the dark sides of war. Throw in a forced witnessing and perhaps even participation in a civilian massacre for good measure. Far more impressive than the rather short-duration "go out or I shoot you in the back" beginning of that CoD 1 Russian campaign, which quickly devolves into a gun range shootfest.
  A Stalingrad campaign should include a rendition of the Volga song (A soldier stands on the bank of the Volga) for a good, definite tear jerking moment too.
  
  But yeah, an introduction to German technology, strategy and tactics would be incredibly interesting too.

  An indie developer could probably pull it off. But yeah, the big players would probably weasel out, whether they really have to or not.
  
  It's sad, it works so well in movies too, and it might make people think twice before signing up to become a soldier. Everyone can lose limbs and friends, but not everyone can be a hero.
