  With Vella in development, I hope they SERIOUSLY consider a Lann revamp. So many things about Vella seems to overshadow Lann.

  Sword Lann does get a pretty hefty damage boost with the Ignition update, so it's really important to remember that. Lanns got a lot of buffs in the S2 update, especially when his overall damage is now 20% to 30% higher and he gets a few improvements like Slip Dash distance and reduced hit delay. Spears also still will retain the highest DPS, while also gaining invincibility frames.
  
  The same complaints cropped up with Kai. But if we look at Kai's current damage (post S2), they are significantly lower than Lann's. On paper his skills might completely blow Lann's out of the water, but the damage percentiles keep him in check. The same could happen for Vella.
  
  And if she does turn out to be terribly broken and making Fiona and Lann useless, they'll lower those percentiles. Just like what happened for Kai.
  
  So stop worrying/complaining so much when she isn't even in KR Test yet.

  Kai does need to dodge, his bow draws aggro and he ends up having to use his dodges. Longbow especially pretty much instantly drags the boss to your location to try and kill you. On later bosses this means he dodges often enough that it will affect his overall DPS. Sword Lann's constant dodging isn't that constant, a lot of bosses have opennings to throw in Double Crescents and Bear Blows in (not even counting Gliding + Lightning).
  
  And yes a lot of these opennings are due to party environments, but in a solo Kai is stuck running away half the time as most later bosses actually cover quite a bit of distance with their moves. Shortbow has a relatively short range as well, similar to some of Staff Evie's smashes, so it really isn't exactly viable to try and "snipe". Longbow just has pretty terrible DPS now.
  
  
  Now for the numbers.
  
  Gliding Fury is a 0.285, Lightning Fury is 0.223, Bear Blow 2 hits is 0.363 total, Double Crescent is 0.232, Furious Seven is a 1.232 if all 7 hits land.
  
  Now I bring up F7 as Kai's smashes all technically count as SP skills. He can't always abuse his burst damage since he needs the SP built up in order to function, and he won't have that SP at his disposal 100% of the time.
  
  Shortbow normal is 0.067, Gale + Twister Kicks are 0.457, Twister alone is 0.223, Arrow Storm is 0.484, Eagle Eye is 2.093.
  
  Now it's worth noting, an Arrow Storm is about 1.5 bars of SP. So 3 Arrow Storms will give you less damage than a F7 for .5 more SP bar of cost. The kicks require you to be at melee range and have an openning comparable to the time it'd take to do a Bear Blow, it also costs about a third of a SP bar. Twister Kick is essentially a Double Crescent that does not allow you to have a chance to GF off of it.
  
  Eagle Eye burns all your SP for more damage yes, but you're completely vulnerable during the preparation unlike F7 which also grants invincibility on use. Shortbow Normal is just not that great. Land one double crescent and the Kai will have to land 4 shots to catch up. Get a Gliding Fury off that, the Kai now needs to land 8 shots. Get a Lightning Fury? That's now pretty much 12 shots.
  
  His damage will not be higher than a Lann if the Lann plays aggressively enough.

  What kind of impression does a dual sword wielder give you? Most would mention a speedy and stylish combat. Mabinogi Heroes already has that kind of style with Lann but we wanted to make a new style different from his.
  
  Which is why making a speedy and stylish combat system that is unique for Vella was important.
  
  This will be apparent starting from how she handles normal monsters. While Lann quickly closes in for his kill, Vella pulls normal monsters towards her and obliterates them.
  
  This skill is called Typhoon Slash.

  Vella has an easy-to-use evasion and a challenging evasion.
  
  In order to make basic survival easy we made the normal evasion nice and simple.
  
  We hope that those who aren’t accustomed to action-genres will find the normal evasion easy to use.
  
  On the other hand, since the normal evasion is so easy to use it doesn’t provide any satisfaction for using it properly.
  
  Which is why we also prepared a more challenging evasion that has a rythmic feel to it. We call it Backlash.
  
  This skill will distance you from your enemies while deflecting projectiles back at their shooter.

  The most satisfying thing about action games is mastering your character’s full potential through practice.
  
  Vella has two skills to support this, Cross Stance and Cross Strike
  
  Cross Stance is a skill used mid-combo in anticipation of an incoming attack. Afterwards, you can use Cross Strike timed with the timing the monster attacks you.
  
  So Vella has two choices when she is being attacked.
  
  She can choose to safely evade the attack or choose to risk a hit and counter the attack in a bad-ass fashion.
  
  Bella can achieve maximum damage if she opts to take the risk and succeeds.

  I'm pretty aware of that, except what I'm trying to say is standard +5/+10 gear just doesn't cut it when comparing to Kai's "steadier" flow of DPS with the same type of gear, even if the Lann is a great dodger. You also can't expect a critical hit on every single hit, even with great gear, and stuff happens in close combat that can really screw a player over. Kai can play it safer, and since -most- raids require a party, it's more or less spam spam spam, even if that normal attack skill I forget the name of is pretty weak. Bringing it over to Vella, she's a counterattack type character? She can take hits mid-combat and deal out damage while being attacked or something? Even more DPS there, Lann can only use up his invincibility frames to avoid getting knocked out in one hit. Might require the same amount of skill, sure, but one deals damage while the other doesn't.
