Which do you prefer? Or do you even care?
It all depends with me. I usually don't care whether or not something is generic, but there are some things that I just don't like if they are.
I don't like generic soda, because I always feel like they sweeten it up waaaay more than Brand Names. Its always made me sick when I've drank it, so I ask my mom to buy me brand name soda. This usually doesn't matter since I don't drink much soda anyway and prefer things like water and juice.
I'm okay with some generic snacks. Most knock-off potato chips and other snacks like that are okay, but I can't stand generic Cheetos. They're always really far off from what the name brands taste like, which is super gross. I prefer generic potato chips to Lays because the latter always seems way too salty.
I don't care about things like toothpaste, soap, shampoo, etc. To me, they all work the same, so it doesn't really matter.

I don't really care about brand names for food, as long as it doesn't taste like horse poop, then i'm good!
Although, with electronics, I really only like getting brand name things, I don't know why, maybe I think they would be more reliable?(xbox rrod ftl) and to me, apple products are worth it, for the brand name, and the way they look/operating systems!

Cheezies taste way better than Cheetos hands down.

Definitely generic when it comes to prescriptions. Name brands are wayyy overpriced.
For foods, many brand name foods taste much better than Alexander's "Famous" Pizza.

For meds, I check the active ingredient of the brand name, and see if it's the same in the generic. A lot of the time, generics are actually stronger-- which is fine by me.
I don't usually eat snacks, so I buy whats in the vending machine. And then of course its brand.

I don't really care as long as it's good.
Although, I hate the food in price chopper for some reason, when I went there.

I pretty much only eat generic brand food. Why? It's cheaper. Brand name crap you pay for their billion-dollar ad campaigns and package redesigns.
Technology, like controllers, flash drives, ETC. I usually buy well-known good names, because generic electronics tend to be lower quality. Like that Mad Catz Xbox 360 controller that I had to kludge in leftover parts from unrepairable SNES controller to get working again.

If it's not meant to last long (like food), I'd usually buy generic.
If it's meant to last long (like computer hardware), I'd usually buy brand names.
