I'm doing a research paper and I'm wondering if anyone would like to give me a hand in finding some articles and data on this.
Basically, its about nationalism and general cultural superiority.
Why are people always so proud of their origins, whether it be their race, nation, group? Why do people become loyal to the sports team of their state, and why are people so bent on what race their ancesters are even if it makes no difference today (example, they'll say they're Irish or something).
This must be explained in its relation to psychology, and provide examples of how this could've helped human beings during their earliest forms (cave men, survival, etc).
I'm not really looking for your personal opinions, but rather sources. So if anyone wanna help out, that be great. I'll be looking around myself.

Mm, my sociology class talked a lot about this.
If I find my notes, I might be able to give you more sources, but something that I remember that was interesting was my prof's comment on the Crips vs Bloods-- even when there are no socioeconomic differences within a group, people make their own distinctions and 'races'. Joining together against a common enemy, go~

During my evolutionary biology course, we talked about this briefly.
It has to do with the fundamental goal of organisms being to pass on genes.
An intelligent animal will realize that their lineage is tied to their inherited genes and will make assumptions that, because the good genes they received came from ireland, other things from ireland must also be good.
The same rational applies to intelligent animals. Wolves, Birds, and other primates tend to only mate with others from their regions because they can recognize (to a limited extent, and most likely sub-consciously) that the good genes they received from the region are likely to be present in a mate from the same region.

Read "Lies My Teacher Told Me" by James W. Loewen
This book discusses the topic of ethnocentrism and related topics quite extensively.

but people won't help you write a research paper on a GAMING forum >_<
i would suggest that you use the posts above as a starting point and research from that point.

nationalism.pdf
Opening chapter of "Asian Nationalism" sans a few pages. But it talks about different streams of thought on nationalism, so many you can grab something off of it.
