  First of all though, as much as I hate banner B myself, I want to defend some points on from what I've read about it in the comments. No burn/dodge was used, rather the whole thing was just expanded as a stamp tool from an official piece of mabi art. It certainly is "bright", but by no means is it any "brighter" than the purest form of bright that takes up the main body of this whole site, which is white. I suppose if white is preferable to a light yellow, I could've faded the whole thing out. Or filled it with a darker color.
  
  As with banner A, and some other banners that weren't picked for voting, a banner for a site is actually very different from any other kind of work as it needs to feel as simple and easy to modify. The morrighan banner is certainly a very nice image, but its got a very "busy" design and when placed on top of a website, would contrast way too strongly to the rest of the layout. Also, it has very little space for modification, which Osayidan already pointed out.
  
  I purposely left banner B empty with that in mind. The text was a placeholder and said it can be replaced by anything. Admittedly it ended up being a bit too empty, but adding more would've ruined it at that point, so I felt like it was a failed submission. Banner C finds a good balance of simple and detailed, though I don't think a character art should exist at all on the left and I'd rather just place the logo there instead and call it a day. Though thats just my preference.
  
  Oh, and for visualization, since we're going to be on xenforo, I also made a mockup of the site. Though obviously given how much customization xenforo is promised to have, the layout would probably change a bit from this, but here is.

  Also, for anyone who has a hard time visualizing what Osay means by character rotation, its like when a certain condition is met (I think we're probably just going to do random rotation on every page load), the banner would change like this.

  Anyways, what I came up with at the end was to do away the banner altogether. I didn't like my banner, I didn't like the improved designs I came up with, I didn't like other people's banners, I didn't like our current banner. The 1000 by 150 pixel image that takes up the whole top of the page to greet you every day for months, its just so boring, even with character rotations.
  
  So instead I decided to go with gif rotations instead. Make it look like this. The background and layout would obviously change, but the only image we'd have on top is one simple gif.

  Anyone could send in more gifs to the pool of random banner rotations, so eventually we'd have hundreds of images to view with each refresh. I imagined they could be site-related or even have various in-jokes, making it a really at home feeling for the community. Heck, I'd even throw Joel's face up there.

  Hitaki later suggested in the voting page that we could still use the banners and put these gifs in the empty center of banner B. Though in that case, I'd prefer it just take the left side of banner C instead and get rid of Lorna and the logo altogether. Though I really don't like the banners in general and prefer a more simple web layout instead.

  i'd much rather it look nice and be boring than see something that just looks thrown in for fun, without consideration for how the page looks
  
  though i dont see why it can't be made an optional feature as a layout if there are people who just want to see gifs instead

  i'm not saying that you were the one who put in the effects, but overlay layers were probably used somewhere in the original image to raise the contrast and saturation before you even got your hands on it... pictures generally don't come out with such high saturation + contrast if they're directly painted without layer effects. it's not like they can't, but just from my general observation, most don't.
