  I suppose since the gills are like the lungs, if chlorinated water enters the gills, they will get absorbed into the body.

  Polt is a kobold, not a neko. There are three common types of kobold in fantasy. There's the traditional Germanic kobold, which is usually depicted as a short human (often blueish) that performs household tasks, similar to brownies. There's the D&D kobold, which is depicted as being lizard-like in nature. And then there's the wolf-like kobold that's generally seen in video games.
  
  Obviously making a kobold to be similar to the wolf-like variety is more ideal in a manga that deals with monster girls. So if anything if she's not a "kobold", she's a werewolf.
