suggest some animes?

  I didn't even bother to watch the interquel OVA that takes place between season 1 and 2 because the ending for both seasons were complete mind screws.
  
  The action scenes are nice and if you decide to ever watch it, keep in mind not to keep an attachment to any character.

  Full Metal Alchemist : Brotherhood - It has around 50 or so episodes, but it's one of the greatest works out there

  I second FMA, Durarara, and I liked Gurren Lagann, but yeah in that order.
  
  My personal favorite though is Mushishi, kinda the odd one out though.

  durarara is overrated imo ;-; the plot makes no sense when i did try to watch it when it was on adult swim.

  If you're still looking for more, then two good ones that I personally enjoy are
  
  Toaru Majutsu no Index (A Certain Magical Index)
  Accel World
  
  Accel World is currently airing, and I'm not sure too many people enjoy the MC. There's a spin off series for A Certain Magical Index called Toaru Kagaku no Railgun (A Certain Scientific Railgun), but it falls within the same category of K-On and Lucky Star (except it has a minor plot going for it and only two episodes where shit actually gets serious).
  
  There's also an upcoming anime next season called Sword Art Online. I really enjoyed the first novel for it, and I'm almost certain people would go crazy for it.

  Couldn't really find any elements that all of the shows you listed shared, but seconding Darker Than Black, Mushishi and Welcome to the N.H.K.

  If you want to watch something different, try out...
  
  -Armored Trooper VOTOMS (one of the more down to earth sci-fi anime, it's about a soldier on the run. I haven't gotten that far into it but the visuals and the setting are very interesting.)
  
  -Tekkaman Blade (Earth is being invaded by aliens known as the Radam. They transform humans into these "knights" called Tekkaman to use in their invasion, but, one of them, Blade fights against the Radam. Again, I haven't gotten to far but 'm liking what I've seen.)
  
  I'm watching them slowly but surely into the summer and I'm having a blast.
  
  Other shows... (mostly mid-late 2000s shows)
  -Neon Genesis Evangelion (Madoka gets compared to Eva a lot, anyone who watches anime should at least watch it once so they can either love it or like many other people I know, hate it.)
  
  -Gundam 00 (no knowledge of other Gundam shows needed, it's very different from old school UC and some fans say it's like Gundam Wing, which is kinda'-somewhat-not-really true.)
  
  -Full Metal Panic Fumofu?! (A comedy based around the characters from FMP. Not serious at all, loved it so much I bought the box set way-back-when.)
  
  -GunxSword (A very enjoyable Super Robot show, quirky characters, awesome music, and overall you'll be like this through the series)

  I'm pretty sure you've already watched some of these, but I'm just giving you suggestions from the top of my head.
  
  Canaan - Never really paid attention too this anime, but, from the way the storyline goes. It's really good.
  
  Full Metal Panic & Full Metal Panic Fumofu - Just as the person said above, it's a funny anime from FMP. It's really good.
  
  And High school of the dead - Was mostly a meh, for me. I only watched it cause I had nothing better too do.
