Chances are for that made up recipe for laughs you'll get one of the following.

I'm curious Archi, how did you guys go about doing these tests? I guess what I'm asking is, how did you pick what items to mix together? Because picking random items to mix together seems kind of...wasteful, especially considering the fact that you're not even guaranteed the item even when using the correct recipe.

That's not true either. After enough experimentation you find out that synth is not as random as first thought. You can semi-predictably produce items within 10 tries with the best recipe for each item. I have about 6 rare recipes that work like that. I would like to add wingbow and dustin helm to that.

There doesn't seem to be any logic to the recipes :V
As in, how do you make a metal sword out of wood and fabric? wtf..

It could be tempered wood through a fire, and it has fabric on it o.o.

It's alchemy -> changing matter, basically.

So that others can experiment some I'll post this small nugget about synthesis (Thank Turkey for the inspiration to share this).
Synthesis can be thought of as a roulette wheel. Some wheels you have to bet a minimum of $5 to play. Others $25, the ones with the best prizes may have a minimum of $100 per bet.
In order to limit the number of numbers on your particular roulette wheel you "hedge" your bets. Sometimes you bet it all on black and chances are pretty close to 50% you get black (think of putting in 3 LLB chances are pretty close to 50% you get another LLB)
If you expand your selection your wheel grows with its probables. IE If you put in a Armor, Clothing, and Bow you now have alot to choose from on your wheel. If you were to just put 3 armors on your wheel the chances are very good to just get another armor.
This is the door into understanding synthesis. I have done the actual calculations through tests and generally can find the best recipe and give its % chance give or take 1-2% (this is mabi's algorythm we are talking about which to all people I know....still a mystery at times).
There is a hidden key which links this theory which, for now, I will keep secret.
