I know Copper gives you a red finish, and gold gives you a yellow finish.
I've been wondering about this for a while now, but what shade of silver will the armor/weapon be with a silver finish? Will it be the same color as the commonly sold NPC weapons? (ex. Broadswords)

For most people, it will look almost like the NPC silver. For some people with mods, they might tell the color hex maybe slightly different or not.

It's harder to tell with some weapons like a Broadsword.
It's more noticeable on darker shaded metal, like a Gladius or a Great Sword.
Easiest way for me to tell is if it's "brighter" than the NPC silver color.
In any case, I'd save the Silver Ingots. Silver color is like NPC color, so it won't sell with players as much as red or even gold.

I don't know why but people just love copper finishes on broadswords or any kind of blacksmithed weapons to be honest.

Cuz it's red?! You know, the most over used colour in this game? ~_~ (I wish there were some way to get pink smithed items 100% of the time D:)

Silver finishes are close to White colored. Not Pure white, but fairly white. Its not gray at all.

Silver finishes are 'lighter' compared to standard store stuff, however not as light as if you used a Metal dye amp and got the lighter area.
If you choose to finish a item without copper/gold/silver it will usually end up a random shade of gray but you've got small chances of all colours: e.g moss green, pink, light blue
