Not on Steam? Well, that sucks.
But it seems they re-did the graphics engine using DX9. The old one was running on DX7 or something (ew). Judging by the media shots, they may have also updated the models and textures. If that's not just for the pre-rendered cutscenes, then that's pretty awesome.
If it were on Steam, I'd probably buy it. As for buying it from SE directly? idk

Have fun paying RL money to get max gil and max leveled characters if you can't afford 'that one critical Phoenix Down'.

I've read that they in fact did not update any of the graphics. x( That's a shame--they could have easily done it and it would have become a major selling point for FF7 fans.

If they didn't, then oi.
I mean, I love old graphics and all but to rerelease something with late 90's graphics is terrible.

Srsly.. I mean, there's even an unofficial mod that updates graphics. If some fans could hack one up for the game, the devs could have done it so much easier.

Yeah... disappointing.
So is there much of a point to this over the PC version that came out like 14 years ago, other than possibly better controls and CG crap that anyone can look up on Youtube anyway?

Proper OS support and online rankings + whatever online stuff they've come up with. Probably not worth it for most people. Maybe the hardcore fans will be interested.
The game probably isn't that by modern standards anyway.

Online rankings? For what? ;__; Don't quite a few people do everything, have everything, etc? Would basically put everyone who puts some time into it at first place unless it's like a race to the finish every month or two. Or I guess there could be time trials, stuff like that.

Games at the Golden Saucer?
Also, the original PC controls were pretty awful.
