Go to a community college. I went for one year before transferring to the university. I only went one year because I ran out of programming classes to do. In my opinion, I am only going to be taking classes I feel I actually need to help me make games. So, a lot of programming and art classes for me, and gen eds like com arts are ok cause they give me a chance to practice my writing.
It also helps that my family is low income so 99% of college is paid for in grants, I took out loans for my first year of college, but that was because my mother needed money to feed my 3 siblings, and she is going to pay me back for those.
All in all, I am actually ahead in that my mother owes me about 4000 dollars or so. Taking out the money she spent getting me a car "that broke down", she still owes me at least 2000 dollars.
So, college is actually very affordable, if you get grants and your father leaves you with vetren's benefits.

Join the military; let the government pay for it.

I was about to say, pretty sure the OP is filthy stinking rich so if he gets into Stanford he has nothing to worry about. Your family EFC is probably something ridiculous so I don't feel bad for you.
I feel like everyone gets fucked over with paying for college, but being middle-class is the worst. Mom and I had an honest talk about finances and she admitted she can pay for one year and then "it's all you." I can get maybe half of the cost of a private university that's 50k/yr in need-based grants (don't get me started on public state schools, they give NO aid so it would be cheaper to just go to a private college), work study, federal loans, and that leaves me like 20k/yr to pay. So i'm looking forward to taking out 60k in private loans. I wouldn't even think about if it I wanted to major in something useless, but I want to be a nurse. I have to weigh whether I want to do something I want to do that's all but a guaranteed job. I would consider community college but the dean of nursing at the state university (which is logically, to save money the next step in getting a bachelor's) told me that they have no nursing transfers. Can't get hired at a hospital around here without a bachelor's, associate's is no good. What's a girl to do?
I don't know, I hate to sound bitter but there's a lot more help out there for lower-income people and being lower-middle class and having to bear all of this debt is just not fair. I don't expect life to be fair but I didn't expect that i'd have to spend the next 15+ years of my life losing sleep over college debt.

I'm "lucky" to be pretty damn poor so I get to go to a local state college for free, but if it weren't for that I really wouldn't be going to college.
Just doing it for the family.
Hell, I'd rather just take an art class on the side and work at Starbucks or something for my life. I just honestly think we put too much emphasis on a college education for certain things. Not everyone needs to go to college to be successful/happy, but you essentially get crucified by everyone you know if you don't.
Sigh.

I always imagined myself going to college, since I'd be the first in my family who has.
But I don't see the point anymore, I have proven to myself you don't need some fancy degree to be successful.
Maybe you can't get the best job in the world, but with the right investing and keeping one foot forward, it's extremely easy to earn money.
My aunt and uncle didn't go to school, and they're filthy rich, like swimming in a pool filled with money while the homeless boy on the corner jerks off to it with envy wealthy.
I asked my uncle for a $2,000 loan and have made 2100% of that in the last 18 months.

I dream of going to Stanford but apparently the full tuition comes to a grand total of $200K. About 50k/year.
WHERE DOES ALL THAT MY MONEY GO! Can the average family even pay for that?
Is this post secondary or post graduate?

Post secondary because his parents are too rich for need-based aid probably.
