As many of you know I have 33 characters on my main account. What most of you don't know is how having many characters can, over time, pay for themselves and fill up your bank account. Even in a down economy with enough effort you can buy those rares items and get what you want.
The following Guide lists several easy methods for making money with multiple characters.
Keys:
1. Having Premium or VIP service (seems expensive but pays for itself if done right)
2. Having a couple nexon accounts (not 100% necessary but it does help)
3. Having a house.
4. Having lots of storage options (having plenty of storage pets can make this process easier)
5. Find a solid NX seller who will not scam you. (The key to this is to be trustworthy and let your reputation speak for you)

Method 1: Advance Play
Many people groan when they see the price of VIP service but when you think about it it’s a steal.
1. If you have 3 characters (main and two assistants) that’s 90 adv play items per purchase.
a. On average that should net you 10+ regular dyes or metal dyes (which currently sell anywhere from 80k-140k each) that’s 800k-1.4 mil in just those.
b. You should also get 40-50 wings (which currently sell at 5-10k each for normal wings and 3-5k for dungeon wings). That’s another 120-300k.
c. On average you should get 4-7 magic power potions (which currently sell at 5-10k each, and if you’re on Alexina just mail them to me for 7k anytime :D)
So that all added up you should make between 948k-1.77 mil each month just from adv play items on 3 characters (and you get to keep the somewhat useful repair and bank coupons). Depending on your server NX prices vary but currently NX is 1.5-2 mil per 10k from good sellers on Alexina (your server may vary). With a personal investment of 23.7k nx to get 3 more characters you will make enough from just adv play each month to pay for service. Which is one more expense that is off your plate and as you can see the more characters you have the more valuable this becomes. With my 33 characters I can make roughly 8-10 mil a month from adv play items which not only pays for my service it also pays for weekly rebirths and other nx items that help make mabinogi better.
Now that we have figured out how to pay for service each month let’s look at how we can slowly build our character base higher.
Method 2: Daily Jobs
Daily Job 1: Manolin’s daily job
Each real life day (starting at 12pm server time) you can speak with Manolin (located in Port Cobh near the water) and do his request. Essentially he wants a striped marlin. Simply speak with him after accepting his quest and have a striped marlin in your inventory to complete the quest. He gives you a shark which you right-click “use†and it spits out one of the following:
Red Upgrade Stone, Blue Upgrade Stone , Wood Board, Shark Robe, Red Sea Bream, Black Sea Bream, Food Waste, Blowfish are all possible rewards.
The upgrade stones drop about 1/5 and sell for 60-100k+ depending on server.
The wood board drops about 1/4 and sell for 10-15k each depending on server.
The Shark robe can re-sells for 3.2k gold but is fairly low drop. The rest resells for small change.
With 3 characters you should get 10-15 upgrade stones a month and 14-20 wood boards. Cashing this activity in at 740k-1.8 mil per month depending on NA server. That is almost enough gold to add 1 character per month. If you invested in 3 extra characters then you now have enough to add 1-2 characters your first month.
It’s not a bad idea to have at least 1 character with high ranked fishing and a success rate lv 2+ reforge on his fishing rod. AFK fish in Cobh every night while you sleep and wake up to find your bag filled with marlins. I suggest that you key 1-3 of your inventory bags to fish only so that you have room for fish and drop the randoms that are worthless.
Daily Job 2: Slevin’s daily Job
Each real life day (starting at 12pm server time) you can speak with Slevin (located Belfast near the Lighthouse) and do his request. Essentially he wants a picture of a parrotbill. Parrotbills are located at Mykines Cliff in Belfast. There are 3 different types and you select which type you want based on the reward you would like to get.
Use sketch paper to sketch a parrotbill and bring it back to Slevin who will give you 1 Belfast seal and a bundle of enchant scrolls. Since some of the enchant scrolls are personalized you may want to put the bundle on a pet first and open them with your main so that they can use the personal ones. Depending on the type you selected you can get melee enchants, alchemy/mage enchants, range enchants.
Some of these will sell for good money (500k+) and some are fairly worthless except to sell to an enchanter for 5-10k.
Either way putting them in a shop while you afk fish at night is a good way to increase your budget. With 3 characters expect a return of about 1 mil -2 mil per month on the enchants (more if you get lucky!), which should fund the purchase of 1 more character. Don’t forget to save the Belfast seals as they are very valuable as well (5-10k each or save for rare enchants from commerce, which you can sell for good money)
Method 3: Events
Oftentimes Nexon runs events where you turn items into a NPC or where you talk to an NPC to get items, by having multiple characters you can gain multiple items.
For example:
In the recent card numbers event you got a card every 20 mins and after a while they would stack up until most people just dropped them. If you had multiple characters you could have gotten 10-20 boxes per game day (depending on how fast you can log in and out on characters) and then opened them for rewards by simple grabbing the numbers people didn’t want. Some players have 4-5 bank tabs of diamonds from doing this and made millions off this last event. The only limitation was the speed you could log and the amount of characters you had. Nexon does these events often and they are a sure way to make a killing. Sometimes these events are extremely lucrative and you can fund 4-5 new characters easily.
I will leave out some of the other methods like part time jobs but you are starting to get the picture.
Having multiple characters can enrich your game play and pay for those items you really want. It takes time to get a good amount but once you do mabinogi literally pays for itself. A side benefit is that you have an incredible amount of storage space in your bank and can hold plenty of gold for future transactions.
Enjoy!

For some reason you still get Adv play items with just Premium Plus service, you also have access to the VIP inventory tab as well.
The only things that I notice that you don't get is the unlimited Cont warps, lower durability loss, and VIP Today's Mission.
So as far as using a lot of characters on an account to take advantage of Adv play items, VIP service isn't needed.

I did not know that so that's a discount to many of our users! thanks. I always get vip so I didn't know
Edited and corrected in guide.

This was very useful!
I'm gonna start doing this once I find a job, lol.

What I did back in 2009 with the mentorship of Waui (one of the first players in Alexina) is I bought 8 character cards and the premium service package (at the time that was the only package). Waui showed me how he made 1 mil a week from that (when prices were cheaper) and basically funded mabi. I slowly built up with pets and characters until I had 33. Which I stopped at because with pets I was getting near the character cap. The nice thing is that I can weekly rebirth, pay for service, buy pets, and very very very rarely have to spend my own real life money in game. It takes a little effort but I think its a nice way to play.

This is very useful indeed. I might actually get VIP or premium seeing this means I can just earn it all back in time...

Wow. I would try this, but I lack a trusted NX seller, since i never buy NX in game, and im not really committed enough to the game to do something like this, im usually hovering between Mabi and another game. But i'm definitely going to save this guide for if i ever commit myself to Mabi alone.

While I appreciate the generosity inherent in sharing methods of acquiring money, I'm gonna stand back and feed your cycle, rather than bump elbows. :D
Enough people do this and prices drop; which is fine for me, because I enjoy playing without premium. Now that I've got the life skills done that I wanted done (nearly done with potionmaking) I don't need massive inventory anymore. I still have a pretty good inventory from all my extra pets and chars, and for some events it's worth cycling through them.
But lately real life has been busier for me, so I generally just freebirth my alts to age 10 and ignore them until it's time to freebirth again (more AP for less time investment that way) or if I need to go through their inventories to find something. *rolls eyes at the headache*

Don't worry there are not enough players who read my guides to flood the market to make this an issue. It will help people who are currently struggling to make money in this economy which is why I posted it. Its good to give back, it pays back in greater dividends at some point.

Plus this might not be for everyone. It seems to me that to manage a large number of characters to get the most of this will require quite a bit of dedication to the process. I dont think well have to worry about hundreds of players starting to use this technique. :p

Chaosruler wrote on 2012-07-19 05:21
the only downsize of this technique is getting a set of trustworthy nx sellers
i've kind of understand the basics of how this works, but getting a reputation takes time [or r1 tailoring, blacksmithing, enchanting] before they can get some decent nx sellers that stick by you and get u nx every now and then. [as i've seen few of my sellers quit, gave up on selling nx or simply lost contact because, well i end up broke for too long and the only thing linking us was nx :/]

Awesome guide! Although taking care of 33 characters like that is a bit tedious for the average player... 6 characters was already to much for me x.x

I have 36 characters and the advanced play part definately works very well. The only issue I have is finding the time/willpower to log onto all those characters. On average I might only log onto 4 or 5 per day because I'm so lazy.
Also, when it's the birthday of one of those characters having to chat with Nao first pisses me off.
