That is to say, Guild Wars 1 is still awesome and well worth the money.

I never did play Guild Wars 1 and not really interested in the first game as it didn't interest me from the beginning.
In other words, I'm only willing to try GW2 that I'm already hooked on rather than throw money at the obsolete GW1 which I have no experience with whatsoever.
Nice concept though.

I got the full set of GW games recently (a day or so before the GW2 beta in fact) and I really enjoy it. I can't stress enough that GW and GW2 are very different games, similar to how Mabinogi and Vindictus are different games. It can be pretty difficult too which I appreciate. You can't just get all the "best gear", power level and then stomp over everything. You actually need to know how to play well in order to succeed which again, is appreciated.
I definitely recommend GW and it's somewhat cheap at the NC-soft store. Guild Wars Platinum Edition is probably the best value for money. For $20 you get the original game and the Eye of the North expansion which allows access to the Hall of Monuments and you get three HoM points (out of 50) just for lining your account.

Getting everything is a bit more expensive, totalling US$50 for Guild Wars Trilogy ($30) and the Eye of the North Expansion ($20).

Gamestop sells the Complete Collection (which has all the campaigns and the expansion) for $30. For the quality and that much content, it's a great value for an online game.
But yes. GW1 and GW2 are very different. It's like comparing Diablo 3 to World of Warcraft. Because of this, you won't ever feel like you're playing a completely outdated game with GW1, and it will still have support post-release of GW2.

I am VERY tempted to grab it for something to play until GW2 is released. Would be nice to experience some of the lore prior to GW2 first hand.

Now no one has any excuse not to play GW1.

I can think of plenty of excuses. One being that GW1 like you said is a completely different game. A game that I'm not really interested in.
Another reason is money. I spent too much money on nx and as a result I have put a cap on game spending for the next 2 months.

Do you take everyone that literally? Just wonderin'.
More jokingly; correction, no one has a good excuse not to play.

No need to buy and play Guild Wars 1 as fast as possible if you want the Hall of Monument rewards.
So take your own pace.

Well, in that case, I'm sure I'll try GW1 eventually. Maybe in a couple months.

How many points do people have so far? Being that I've only just started I only have four points, three from linking the account and one from putting MOX in the HoM XD For those that don't know you normally need to get a hero's alternate armor to put them into the HoM but MOX can be put into the HoM right away :p So I'm still very much at newbie status lol.

Haven't touched Eye of the North yet (as this is a new account, and back then, I only had Prophecies). I might have 3 points atm, and when I finish Prophecies, that's a few more to reach past the first title mark.
I do plan to at least get to 30. 50/50 is something I want to strive for, at least.

Anyone know if there are any other armour rewards other than the heritage sets?
It's the only armour listed on the wiki as a potential reward, not that it's the final line of information or anything.. just curious.
