Whenever I go to certain websites, like select youtube videos, firefox simply stops responding. The sites vary from videos, to braised beef recipes to university homepages, even though I visited a few of them just a couple of days ago.
Internet explorer doesn't seem to work at all. It simply shows a white screen and freezes.
Before, the adobe flash plug-in would crash on a regular basis. Now, I sometimes get error spam saying that an exception occurred within flash. To be safe, I've updated to the latest version, but it didn't help at all. Worse yet, when I checked, it said that my flash was still out of date.
As one can imagine, searching the net for a solution is kind of frustrating what with having to restart every two minutes...does anyone have any clue what might be happening?

Sounds like you didn't really update your Flash!
It's a good idea to run the
Flash uninstaller when you update. It removes all versions of Flash from your system. Then you should be able to install the new version properly.
You should also check if you have the latest GPU driver. Flash relies on the GPU by default, and if the driver for that is buggy, then you might get problems. You can also try to disable hardware acceleration in the Flash settings if you feel this is the cause.

Uninstalled it and reinstalled. There were 3 files I wasn't allowed to delete for some reason, but I moved them elsewhere.
Firefox froze upon re-opening but eventually pulled through...testing it now.
edit: Yeah, it still freezes, though on the bright side it does eventually unfreeze.

If you remove flash completely (and restart the pc just to be sure), then go to those same pages, do you still have issues? If so it might not be flash by itself causing it.

With flash completely gone, I had 0 problems. It told me some content couldn't be displayed but didn't choke. After that, I reinstalled flash and it all came back, so I checked for updates on my video card instead.
A few shenanigans later, things seem to be working ok @_@

I'm pleased that adobe is gradually dropping flash.
I forgot when they did it exactly but they mentioned they're dropping support for mobile devices. To drop such a huge market means they probably have no intention of putting too much effort into it anymore. I hope it dies.

Eh.. I dunno. HTML5 Canvas still sucks compared to what Flash can do. I too prefer open standards and all, but I don't see Flash going away until the other stuff catches up. Not to mention that competing stuff, like WebGL, is actually pretty shitty in concept. Letting websites run native code on your GPU? Great idea. >_>; There have already been exploits taking advantage of this.
