The Chronicles of Spellborn. (Tcos) It was an amazing game, with so much work put into it's background lore. The story was fantastic and you were thrown into it right away. The combat was completely different, then any MMO's out there, even today. It was such a fresh take on the old boring combat style, that plagues MMO's even to this day. The graphics, and art style were phenomenal, for a game that came out 4 years ago. The art style itself, is so unique and appealing. That, alone was one of it's best qualities. The game ran really smooth too, for having such detailed graphics. The music was such a great accent to the art style as well.

The only problem was that it was published by the worst game company out there. Acclaim. I would love to see this game come back. If I won the lottery I will definitely hunt down the original dev team and throw money at them.
Hell, they even had a famous band create songs for this game!

R.I.P. Spellborn, you'll always have a place in my heart. <\3

It must have major flaws if it weren't very popular at all. I never even heard of it until today.
You ever tried Tera Online? It is another MMO that has amazing graphics, but it is actually popular.

So...the combat system is entirely unique because you had to aim? Doesn't seem as large a breakthrough as Mabinogi's strategic approach to melee. Anyways, the game does look like it was fantastic, and I wish I'd had a chance to play it. I always love good lore and emersion in a game, and the non-mindless combat would keep me more entertained than most. Looks like they only lasted about a year or so sadly, but it DOES sound like it's was Acclaim's negligence. I saw an article saying that at one point the downloader was broken, all patches corrupted, and a bug required players to change their password every time they logged in.

Their whole combat system was un-seen before (yes, like Mabi's was). It was based on a rolling, bar. You can set skills up on each side of this bar, and come up with different combos. Use 1 skill, the bar rolls to the next side.

It's only flaw was Acclaim. They hardly promoted the game, let alone run it in any working condition.

Everything looks really great (2008?), except the combat animations look stiff. But I applaud its ability to allow movement while attacking.
Music is a hit or miss for me. The music video is nice, though. Aesthetics is gritty and dark, and while that's not my thing for breaking the mold, it's good.
So Acclaim, huh? What a terrible end.

2008 yeah. The animations were pretty bad at some parts but I kinda expect that from the Unreal Engine.
